Not that I don't want women in the workforce, but if married women can afford to stay home and take care of their children, for one, it's a positive sign that the husband's income is covering the bills, and two, it's generally healthy for the children to be raised by their mother rather than daycare.
My wife hasn't worked for thirty years other than keeping the house clean and me fed.

My wife has been a teacher since the mid to late eighties. She always had the summers off to be with the kids. It's better for all involved if keeping everyone fed is not her job.
