Property tax is evil. It is the antithesis(that means opposite, Del ) of freedom.

There should be ZERO property tax on a primary residence that is owned outright. None.

Otherwise we are all just serfs living on the king's estate. Which means you are never really free.

I believe that we have an exemption program here but you have to make under a certain amount of money to qualify. I'm sure I'll be looking in to that more as I reach retirement age. I think that you have to be 65 to qualify. I do believe that there are some other criteria that have to be met but I'm just guessing on that.

Where is the money actually going?

VERY valid point.
UK gov local councils used to collect taxes and decide income v outgoings (budget) for the community.
But they changed to 1x central bank account where all taxes (property, fines, wages tax etc) all get paid into.
And irrespective of what is collected, the local council gets allocated from main Gov their annual budget to spend.
Unsure who actually, REALLY controls (owns) the Treasury account, but I have a very good idea.
Now with "newGov" :snort: there's been previous 12+ years of austerity (Gov spending) but everyone has been royaly raped, and yet there's now "eleventyBillTrillion deficit".
