QuoteThe sales of six Dr. Seuss books will cease over racist and insensitive imagery, according to the business that preserves and protects the author's legacy.

The news comes Tuesday on National Read Across America Day, when schools across the U.S. celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss's March 2 birthday to commemorate the popular children's author, who died in 1991.

"These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong," Dr. Seuss Enterprises told The Associated Press in a statement.

Ridiculous.

Most Dr. Seuss characters are green, orange, or blue, so it can't be racism.
Whatever they think is "hurtful and wrong" I have never seen it, and I have read those books to all 3 of my kids, and all 3 of my grandkids.

I'm going to try and find all the books this pertains to on YouTube and give them a critical listen just to see if I can find the offensive portions and see if they are at all justified.

First off I found "Mulberry Street" - Listening with a keen ear trying to find that justification. At the start it mentioned having a Dad then got pretty tame for the next handful of pages. I was like could that really be the issue?! Then they mentioned the police, okay maybe you can't talk about the police to children anymore? Then "a Chinese man who eats with sticks" came up. BINGO!

Yes it's a bit racist if you actually want to think of that, but why not just change the wording a bit? Something like "A skinny man playing with sticks" would have actually fit better with the storyline than the original anyways.

I'll check the rest out when I get time.

You set out with the best intentions for your children. So you protect them from Every Bad Thing for their entire childhood. And...you end up with young adults who cannot deal with any negative shit, you know, life.

As a bonus these kids are totally intolerant.

I'm just surprised "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" hasn't been canceled yet. But because it's Joe Bidens pickup line it's ignored.

Those 6 books on that list, I don't see the problem. But I can't believe they're letting this one slide...
