Speak of the devil. Lookie what was in the mailbox today. And according to this our home value went down. And this doesn't include the $120million school referendum they just passed. That's going to be an estimated $500+/year. So may as well say almost $8000/year for this horseshit blue city who spends money like a drunken sailor. So our taxes basically doubled since 2020.

That's where I am at. My property tax has more than doubled since I bought the condo.

My area is riddled with apartment complexes and most of the people living in them probably don't realize that all of these levies they love to pass, affect them just as much as it does the home owners in rent price increases. In what world is it fair that someone with a $300.000 condo is paying as much property tax as someone who lives in a $850,000 home in Seattle?

That's why I said when I retire, I'm moving to Idaho.  lol.   I'm somewhat joking. There are areas on the other side of the State that have low property tax as well. Hell, I think there are some senior living areas that have super low property taxes?  I'd have to look in to that.

Why would you not move when you retire?

It's getting bad everywhere.

My county has a board of 3 commissioners, 2 majority party (D), and 1 minority party (R).

Our illustrious majority commissioners submitted a 2025 budget proposal that hikes property taxes 33%.
Our minority commissioner submitted a counterproposal with a much more modest 6.5% property tax increase.

Guess which one they approved?  :wallbash:

Jeeze, it's only been a couple of weeks since OMB was elected and things are already starting to go downhill.

Del.

My property tax went up $500 this year which I thought was too much. Out home values around here are lower than market value, plus I get a reduction of about $50,000 for being over 65. The school tax is about 70% of the bill.

We'll definitely moving. It's the Idaho part that is the sorta joking part.  My g/f has family in Eastern Washington. It's a lot cheaper to live on that side of the mountain and the property tax is a lot lower depending on where you live.

Don't get me wrong though.  Idaho would still be a consideration.

Idaho is a popular destination for Californians with lots of $$ from selling their Cali real estate.
That has driven the price of homes in Idaho up a lot.

I heard about the "Greater Idaho" movement quite a while back, but is that only Oregon or is Washington involved in that as well?

RobertELee, a fun activity (albeit possibly a bit challenging) would be to see if you can use the above phrase in a sentence. Good luck!  :htu:

Mostly California. There are some rich techies moving there from the Seattle area as well.

I was talking about eastern Oregon/Washington seceding into Idaho. It's apparently legal and doable, just needed to be voted on or something in each county that wanted to secede.
