Do I know how to use my time off or what?

Weeks ago I scheduled this past Thursday & Friday off. I though a nice long weekend to burn some remaining PTO time that I need to use, would be nice.

Until my doc called at 12:30 pm on Thursday and said,  "you need to go b to the ER now", "the lab just called be because of an abnormal result", "your CK levels are over 24,000, dangerously high, there's a risk of renal failure and heart muscle damage"

So here I've been in the hospital since Thursday afternoon.  I've been poked, prodded and tested for a myriad of different things.

So what brought me to this point?

After my quadriceps tear surgery in April, things were going well.  I've healed well,  full range of motion,  I've not been able to fully build back strength.

My recovery seems to have masked an issue I began having,  in that I was losing leg strength. Bloodwork in June showed elevated liver enzymes so the docs have been chasing that,  even had a liver biopsy in early Oct.

The last few weeks,  the loss of strength in my legs had really become noticeable,  so I reached back out to my PCP...had and appointment and evaluation and a new series of Bloodwork was done,  leading to the Thursday afternoon phone call I noted above....

So high value for CK levels is 171....I was at 24000

The early diagnosis is Myositis affecting my core and upper leg muscles.

They're currently treating me with heavy IV solutions to try to flush the enzymes out of my system.  I have also had 2 IVIg treatments. Levels this morning were still over 17,000.

They're waiting on another series of testing to come back,  it is believed tomorrow until they finalize a treatment course moving forward.

I have also been referred to a specialist in Boston at Brigham Woman's.

So how do you like to spend your downtime?

Sorry to hear your predicament John. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

How do I spend my downtime? My favourite thing to do, is park up and listen to my favourite music, or watch various live concert discs, or movies. We recently moved into a new house, and I made sure I put speakers in the living area, outdoor area, and the lounge (where the tv, receiver and ht setup is) so I can listen wherever I want. I spent a couple of hours yesterday playing some old vinyl, parked up, laying on the floor :)

I'd also like to say drinking, but I know that really needs to be in moderation, and isn't ideal with meds :)

Music has been a medication for me many times. It pulled me out of some down times, even recently.

I've had some bad weekends, usually of my own doing, but you've got me with this one.
Listen to your doctors and get well soon.

I was mad because I spend six hours setting up a surround sound system that I had to tear down and send back because it was defective.

After reading this, that doesn't sound so bad.

Hope you get better soon.  UGH.

So sorry to hear your troubles, John.

I'm not a doctor, so bear with me.
Are the doctors suggesting you have an autoimmune disease which is causing the body to attack healthy muscle.
As muscles are being destroyed, CK levels increase?

Am I even close?

Sheesh I'd like to say not like you are but I wish and hope your able to work through this more quickly than not!

Hope the docs are able to figure this out and help you heal.

Good luck John. I hope you're able to get past this quickly.

aw DANG! I am sorry to hear about that John. is the Myositis something that you get over in time, or is it just a condition you carry with you now?
