Didn't he claim to be a progressive at some point?

You know what could have saved Gaetz a lot of trouble? Don't be a 40 year old creep trying to sleep with, lets even say, 18 year old girls.
Cmon man - it's 5D chess we're playing here.
Try to keep up

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

This^

Dudes get some money/power/fame and they think these young girls actually like them. The fact that Gaetz is a lawyer and still sent all this money through paypal is not a good look. Whether he was an old perv buying time with younger women or a victim of a honey pot op, the fact that he sent highly traceable payments sure makes you question his judgement. At least Trump had the sense to send the payments through his lawyer.

The "honey pot" scheme, while I would almost be willing to believe anything these days, I find less plausible than Gaetz was a young (at heart :D ) party boy who started hanging out with the wrong people and made some bad decisions.

I also think it's totally possible that once caught up in the bad decisions, someone *may* have tried to extort money to keep things quiet.

I don't know that I buy in to the Doore explanation/conspiracy that establishment Republicans don't like Gaetz because he's not a full on Israel supporter (Dore, Ian, and the lady they are quoting from twitter, are all pro-Palestine so that's the bread and butter of their conspiracy) so they were trying to get him axed from the party. That seems a little out there but I guess you never know.  I'm guessing that's not the only theory being pushed right now.

That's my point. As a supposed "expert" lawyer being considered for the the head of the DOJ, he should have had more sense than to get caught up in this regardless of what the truth actually is.

It's the video that Jeff posted.

I don't know if you've ever heard of Jimmy Dore.  He's a comedian who also does political commentary. He dives in to conspiracy a LOT.

I used to listen to him six or seven years ago. Until he went the way of most of these podcasters who figured out if they target a specific group they get a lot more followers.
