So if the protesters were trespassing, and that's ALL most of them were charged with, they should have been able to pay a fine and be released on their own recognizance, because trespassing is generally a misdemeanor offense.

But noooooooooo.
The children in the media labeled them 'insurrectionists' because it has a much more sinister tone, then the mouth-breathers in Congress and the DoJ began to prosecute them AS IF they were real insurrectionists instead of MOSTLY trespassers.

I NEVER said they should get off free and clear.
I said they should have been charged with what they actually did, trespassing.

Most political discussions I like to take with a grain of salt. Downplaying Jan 6th is one of the more frustrating.  Especially when I know that if had been the other side doing it, it wouldn't be getting downplayed.

And the media downplaying the BLM and Antifa ROITS was just as frustrating for me.

They were 'Mostly Peaceful Protests', remember?

From where I sat, January 6th was also a 'mostly peaceful protest'.
In fact, the number of cars and buildings set on fire during the January 6th protest was ZERO, so we COULD even conclude it was in fact, MORE peaceful than anything BLM or Antifa ever did.

And yes, I know SOME of the BLM and Antifa folks were prosecuted, and rightly so.
But as Robert pointed out, some of the J6 protesters sat in jail for months, and even years, without even getting a court date.

That was 100% a politically motivated weaponization of the justice system that should never happen again, by EITHER party.
