Quote from: RobertELee on December 17, 2024, 08:35 AMI only brought it up because buckchuck has yet to respond to any of my requests for clarification on the deadliness of that horrible and scary day.

I only pointed it out because Del accused the lefties of not being able to drop it.  :D
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Wait... What?

Are you suggesting we don't?

Quote from: Bucky Cornstarch on December 17, 2024, 07:57 AMAre you a mental health expert now? Gender dysphoria is a complicated issue that none of us here are qualified to discuss with any degree of competency.

Let's face it: As a nation, we give don't give two shits about the fact that 45,000 people die every year as a result of guns. We will, however, pretend we have a "mental health crisis" rather than even discuss the possibility that easy access to guns might be an issue. Even better, and more recently, we can pretend that gender issues are a major contributing factor, with almost zero evidence to support this. But it's a topic that's confusing and scary so it takes center stage amongst those who, as usual, don't know any better.

And to the 2A nuts: STFU before you even get started.

::)
The dumbsmit goes on an anti-gun rant then tells the people who value the constitution to stfu.
Oh and no source for the 45k people that die.  ;D
This country is far less worried about a tiny number like that when it's not even in the top 10 and has no specific data to back it up.
How many were hunting accidents?
How many were gang related?
How many were in gun-free zones?

Oh and how many conservatives have ever shot up a school?

We'd have a lot less shooting if Democrats would just stop shooting people  :P

I would say it's more left leaning than the average Democrat, it's liberal at least.
You know, the party of tolerance and acceptance! Also the party that is the textbook definition of racist.

Even leaving out the lunatics who claim men can give birth and that some women have a penis, there are batshit crazy people literally EVRYWHERE.

You can't set foot in even a smallish city without seeing a large homeless population. Are you gonna try to convince me that's due to a housing problem?

Okay, you're correct, I'm not a mental health expert.

From a liberal anti gun website (Brady):  60% of gun violence is Suicide and mass shootings account for 1%

You can't tell me these people don't have mental health issues.

Quote from: Jim at Gentex on December 17, 2024, 08:38 AMEver notice who makes EVERY thread here political by dropping the R word?

And as for the US Constitution, and in particular the 2nd Amendment,
I WILL NOT STFU...EVER.
If the ignoramuses around here would actually read and understand our rights, they would know that free speech is the first one.

Lol. Ah yes it is your right to spread misinformation.

Remove gang violence and suicide from your "45,000 people"... please tell us what THAT number is.
We'll wait.

:coffee:

45,000 in a nation of 350,000,000, while tragic, represents such a statistically small number while we ignore the  6x larger numbers of medical establishment killing people.

:coffee:

You don't get to bring up 2a then tell us to STFU about 2a.

As an Englander who observes from afar, I can see nowadays it's far from great.
Driving LA freeway seeing all the shitty tents lining the road side....Vegas with literally the money-no-object against all the beggers in the streets.
Look at all the old films where kids would drive to school with a shotgun across the back of the truck....I'm assuming that was real and regular?
With minimal if any, problems.
So....what, went, wrong?

46,728 gun deaths in 2023, that's CDC and Johns Hopkins. Pales in comparison to the 675k that died of fat butt disease.

27,300 of those deaths were suicide. So there's a chunky 58.4% that aren't crimes (philosophy notwithstanding).

Of the gun deaths in 2023: 17,289 (37%), were considered the result of violent crimes. So genuine 'gun violence' accounts for 0.56% of 2023's 3,090,582 total deaths in the USA. Of those 17k, ~600 were the result of mass shootings accounting for 3.4% of all violent crime gun-related deaths.

Drum roll:
Leaving us with 0.019% of all 2023 deaths in the US attributed to mass shootings.

The sensational and tragic nature of mass shootings make super dank news headlines, and get massive amounts of eyes and ears. I highly doubt any other statistically-low cause of death gets as much attention nationally. You guys also have a lot of guns, like a lot a lot, and they won't vanish from legislation. At the end of the day, people kill people, a gun just makes it easy from 5 feet away.

Also, 2022 CDC numbers (keep in mind ALL gun deaths counted in at 46.7k for 2023):

Number of drug overdose deaths: 107,941
Unintentional poisoning deaths: 102,958
Unintentional fall deaths: 44,630
Motor vehicle traffic deaths: 44,534
