Quote from: mowens on January 09, 2025, 07:18 AMI hate to be a grumpy old man...on second thought, I actually quite like it. Anyway, this typing with the mixed upper and lower case? It's irritating as fuck to old farts like me who can barely see a computer screen to begin with.

My job here is done.

Go yell at the clouds old man, the kids are talkin'.  :harhar:

JK Mowens, you're cool.  :respect:

Quote from: ghuns on January 09, 2025, 07:21 AMI mean, between LA County, the Coastal Commission, environmental regs, etc they are all 3+ years from the first 2X4 being delivered, if they are lucky.

Meanwhile legions of lawyers from a half dozen different camps are lining up for the coming legal battles.
There are thousands of hours to be billed and  billions in fees to be made.
The long suffering California tax payers and the burned out home owners are near the bottom of the list as far as priorities go.

One thing you must keep in mind
California is "governed" by a veto proof cabal of Democratic legislators.
Most of them are lawyers, so our laws are written by lawyers, with the goal of enriching lawyers.
This is true for home insurance, car insurance, labor law and environmental law.
Every law they pass makes it easier to sue the deep pockets, harder to defend, and easier to collect big payouts.

We've seen a bunch of insurance companies leave the Cali market as a result.
This is true for home owners insurance, car insurance, and business insurance

My hope is the housing markets will wait until I can sell my house and escape this clown show before it collapses.
Given recent events, it may be necessary to accelerate my plans.

Quote from: Jeff on January 09, 2025, 06:11 AMOr as bucky dumbsmit said "it's a changing climate"

See what he did there?

Hey dipshit, arguing that climate change isn't happening and isn't a factor in the severe weather events we've been experiencing goes beyond the level of stupidity that even you have displayed here. Hint: Over 90% (it's actually closer to 97%, but facts rarely sway the indoctrinated) of climate scientists believe that climate change is a thing, and that humans are a contributing factor. It is no one's fault but your own that the media you choose to consume emphasizes the tiny percentage of scientists who believe climate change is a hoax, and that you aren't shrewd enough to decern that.

So, let's go with something that the average Trump voting knucklehead does understand: Anecdotal evidence. I grew up in California, lived there for 50+ years, still own a house there, and still pay taxes (and fire insurance) there. There are way more large catastrophic fires now than there were before.

Simple enough for you?

Quote from: ghuns on January 09, 2025, 07:21 AMI wonder, when all the people who consistently vote Dem and lost their homes begin the rebuilding process if they will finally get just a bit of buyers remorse.

I mean, between LA County, the Coastal Commission, environmental regs, etc they are all 3+ years from the first 2X4 being delivered, if they are lucky.
The likely scenario here for the people that don't have insurance and/or their policies were canceled and they don't have the means to rebuild a home @~$175/ft² min., AND can't come up with the additional property taxes that will surely be assessed because that's how Demonrats in that state roll... developers will cone scoop up that land at a literal firesale price.

No one denies that the climate is changing . I do deny that man makes much of an impact. If we did then why is California dealing more with fires. California is the leader in rules and regulations to curb climate change, yet I don't see it helping any.

See, what leftards like schmucky can't wrap their puny brains around is that it is the failed policies of the left that have created the tinderbox that is now Kommieforniastan.

Schmucky's precious lefturd politicians would never divert water, would never hire the wrong people for the job, would never create policies where vegetation and timber could grow and overgrow to the point where wildfires are now the regular course of nature.

The hubris of the left is just staggering. Logging is bad so we're gonna stop. Meanwhile the forests will overgrow, underbrush will accumulate, bark beetles will kill the forest and now there's 100's of 1,000s if not millions of acres of dead forest and vegitation.

Cali used to have forestry managemtent in the 80's. And that prevented a lot of fires.
But the dumbsmit "global warming" fucktards like yourself cried that the burning was harmful and contributed to "global warming" so they stopped. Then for some strange reason... fires have been happening every year.
Weird.

Or in my case... they used to maintain powerlines
now they spend their budget on "green energy" and environmental consultants.
powerline maintenance is deferred or omitted altogether resulting in horrific lost of life as we saw in Northern Cali
2 years ago. .... which lead to BILLIONS in payouts ... and even less $$ available for maintenance

so now, instead of maintaining the lines, they just shut off the power when it gets windy.
They shut my neighborhood off Tuesday night and it's still off.
Weather permitting, they might turn it back on Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile... we've got no heat, no hot water, food rotting in the freezer, the water bed too cold to sleep in and no lights.
When this method of "powerline maintenance" became a reality I looked into adding a natural gas generator to my
house.... but natural gas is evil and these systems are illegal in Cali.
