Isn't that area like 20 miles from the ocean?
What's more beneficial? Letting the fires run rampant destroying billions of dollars worth of property or replacing a few dozen fire trucks and hoses because salt water damaged them?

Regardless if it is a desert or Mediterranean, the fact of the matter is drought is a normal situation. Average rainfall for LA Basin is only ~13-ish" per year.
