I've asked before and didn't get any answers, so I'll ask again. Since you brought it up. :)

Which policies were the Democrats pushing that were most offensive to the people in the middle?

Maybe they are different for different people. but I would say:

1) Identity politics, which there is a lot that falls under that, such as DEI, gender disphoria issues, etc
2) Green energy. Not that it is necessarily bad to have renewable energy. A lot of people think that it is being shoved down people's throats, without consideration to what it is doing to personal finances and liberties. ie, a wealthy person can own an EV as an extra vehicle and use it every day that suits them, but drive a gas vehicle when they need it. Most people have to choose between one or the other, and the infrastructure isn't in place yet for mandates, not in the electric grid, and not on the road side.
3) hypocracy on Personal liberties. Democrats have prided themselves on being the party of personal liberty. (sex, drugs, rock-n-roll :D ) then covid hit and exposed what their real belief is. which is Government control of everyday activities, closing some businesses, leaving others open. limiting gatherings, forcing masks, mandating vaccines, manipulating scientific information to control the masses. the party of "education" closed schools.
4) Went too far on open immigration policies
5) went too far in reforming crime sentences

I'll add to these lists, the multitudes of overpaid homeless administrators that are doing absolutely nothing to combat homelessness.

There were a few policies passed down by the progressives in Washington State that were wildly unpopular, some of which they've had to reverse course on.  These policies weren't even popular with the left once they figured out how bad they were.

One was not allowing police to pursue unless there was probable cause of a violent crime or sex crime. That meant that if a cop tried to pull you over for expired tabs and you took off, they couldn't pursue. It got much worse. It got to the point that only law abiding citizens would stop for the police. Anyone involved in the smallest crime would just drive away.

There are some other small crime laws passed that have more mixed feelings. You have those who think that someone steeling from 7-11 in the middle of the night is just trying to feed themselves but some of those same people become nimbys when shit starts getting stolen from their cars and yards.

smit... you laughed at this post but with one exception it's completely true
the fire department really did run out of water.. because the reservoir was empty and the fire hydrants
were poorly maintained.
It's week two, the fires are still burning 30+ people are dead with an unknown number missing, and $150 billion
worth of homes and businesses destroyed ( so far)

On a personal note my wife and I have spent 7 days without power because the power companies were forced by law to invest heavily in renewable energy projects, leaving existing infrastructure poorly maintained.
So poorly maintained in fact that they just shut the power off when the wind blows too hard.
I find this absurd that the richest most advanced economy on the planet can't keep the lights on when the wind blows,
but this is a political problem, not a technological one
It is, however a minor inconvenience compared to what the people up north are enduring.
People are dying because our government is run by liberal zealots... and there is nothing remotely funny about it.

I must make a correction to my previous post
the woman in the video is only being paid $400K/year ( poor dear)  with a gold plated 401K, pension and totally free gold plated heath care.

We have the police chase discussions going on here in the KC area also.

They pop up whenever there is a police chase with innocent bystanders/pedestrians/drivers. If you're interested check out the stats on people injured in high speed police chases nationwide.

Indeed it is. Not. One. Republican. in an Executive Position in that state for over a decade. Democrat Super-Majority rule for over 20 years.

Unbridled and unchecked Democrat control for literal decades... in the state.

That was how they rationalized passing this law. The problems was, that anyone committing a crime now knows they can just drive away and those people were going out and committing several crimes a day/night and getting a way with it. In some cases, the criminals would end up shooting or killing someone by the end of the night.

I don't know what the answer is, but just letting criminals drive away from a crime? There has to be a better solution?

It got so bad that they had to make amendments to the law.

This was the statement from ladwp.  Take it for what it worth?  According to them, the tanks that provided water to those hydrants were full when they started fighting the fire? I don't know who to believe in these cases when EVERYTHING gets politicized.

edit: I'm sure we'll all hear more over the next couple of months and there will three completely different stories of what happened. One from the right, one from the left, and one from the people who were actually on the ground doing the work.

Quote"We pushed the system to the extreme," LADWP CEO Janisse Quiñones said in a news conference. "Four times the normal demand was seen for 15 hours straight, which lowered our water pressure."

QuoteAccording to LADWP, the tanks' water supply needed to be replenished in order to provide enough pressure for the water to flow through fire hydrants uphill. But officials said as firefighters drew more and more water from the trunk line, or main supply, they used water that would have refilled the tanks, eventually depleting them.

Quote"I want to make sure that you understand there's water on the trunk line, it just cannot get up the hill because we cannot fill the tanks fast enough," Quiñones said.

That decreased the water pressure, which is needed for fire hydrants to work in higher elevations.

"The first LADWP water tank ran out at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, while the second ran out at approximately 8:30 p.m. that day and the third and final tank ran out at about 3 a.m. Wednesday. Officials said this was to be expected due to the constraints of the municipal water system, which L.A. County Public Works Director Mark Pestrella said is "not designed to fight wildfires."

"A firefight with multiple fire hydrants drawing water from the system for several hours is unsustainable," Pestrella said in a news conference Wednesday. "This is a known fact."

Indeed, fire hydrants have also run dry in the case of other wildfires that spread to urban areas, including the 2017 Tubbs Fire, 2024's Mountain Fire and 2023's Maui wildfires."
