We recently bought a PS5 gaming system and, well, things have changed a bit since I was into gaming 25+ years ago. :)

There is a huge amount of stuff to sort through now.

I'm looking for a multi player kids games that my grand kids can play. Anybody have suggestions on games for 6 to 12 year olds?

And since I'm retired I have a little time to kill myself.  So I'm hoping to find some good games to spend an hour or two a day on. I like military type games like flight simulators, submarine simulations, tanks, etc. Shoot 'em up games like Doom was fun back in the day. Anybody got recommendations on games of that sort?

I used to enjoy some of the RPG games, like the Dungeons and Dragons stuff too.

Also, I've seen there are subscriptions available now. I guess they give you access to online play where you can compete against other people?

There are like 3 tiers for the PS. Does anybody use that stuff and is it worth it?

TIA for input.

I bought an XBox a few years back and realized that I wasn't too keen on paying subscriptions to play online and ended up giving it away. Now, I just play on a PC and purchase through Steam. No subscription required.

I played Ghost Recon Wildlands for about a year and really liked it.  It's open world with a ton of missions. You don't have to do anything in any specific order.

I got sucked in to a game called Snowrunner but that doesn't fit the description of what you're looking for.

One of the nice things about Steam, is the games go on sale pretty frequently so some times you can get a $60 game for $10.

I don't think we have many gamers on the site anymore.  Most of those nerds were left behind on EMC.  :D

My grandkids are in the 7 to 14 age range, and they are all about playing 'Minecraft'.

They talk about it constantly, and when they aren't playing it, they are watching YouTube videos of other people playing it. To me it seems mind-numbing, especially watching someone else play it, but that's their favorite at the moment.

Also, you probably should ask Mom & Dad before purchasing any titles for the kiddos, because there are lots of innocent sounding games out there that parents may not want the kids to play.

I play a couple of games on my PC; I also use Steam. There is a really old D & D game that I've played for years on there. It's called Fate. Outdated graphics but I still like it.

The Byte is very young and an avid gamer, but he doesn't come around here anymore
it's been months since I've seen him. Hope he's OK

Back in the early days of PC I played a lot of simulation games but realized I did not have the time or desire
to get good at it and quit playing. It;s been years since I played any PC games and I've never owned a game consol

I've stayed away from any game consoles for years now. There is no such thing as a few hours here and there for me. I end up spending all my spare time, and then some, on some stupid game. I get depressed after a few months, realizing all the time I've wasted.

I know, that's why I haven't played games in decades. But as a retiree I look at time differently. 🙂

I have been kicking around the idea of picking up one of those Oculus VR Headsets.

I doubt I would like the whole VR thing because I am susceptible to motion sickness, but I have heard that they have an amazing golf simulator that is very realistic with a very low motion sickness factor.

Ideally, I would like to try it before putting out $300-$400 for one, but I don't know anyone who has one.
I might just have to buy one and try it, and if I don't like it I can resell it.

He pops onto Mastercam.com about once a month and answers a handful of questions in the 3rd Party Developers forum. Last time I saw a response from him was a couple weeks ago.

I would assume that every big city has some form of VR arcade at this point.
I've been to VRcore here in Calgary a few times.
Played Half-Life for a while .
I ended going about twice a week so I didn't waste too much time but it started getting expensive.
Realized I could have bought my own system with the money.
Considered buying one but I know where that would lead.

I don't play it often, but I do enjoy my Meta Quest 3.  I play ping pong, shoot zombies, get a little exercise with beat saber, enjoy the 7th Guest, and watch video's in theater like wide screen.  I'm not a big gamer, but the few I play on it are fun.
