But we were smart enough to realize this already?  :headscratch: Well. some of us are?

Trump's 'External Revenue Service' Is a Public Relations Effort. It Won't Change How Tariffs Work.

Trump promises to "tariff and tax foreign countries to enrich our citizens." That's not how it works.

https://reason.com/2025/01/20/trumps-external-revenue-service-is-a-public-relations-effort-it-wont-change-how-tariffs-work/

"Unfortunately, he's still wrong about how tariffs work. Any new tariffs imposed by the incoming Trump administration will function the same way as every other tariff: It will drain wealth from American consumers and businesses to enrich the U.S. Treasury. That's what tax increases do, even when they are proposed by a Republican president and cheered by a crowd of Republican lawmakers, donors, and administration officials.

Indeed, study after study after study has found that the tariffs Trump levied during his first tenure were paid nearly entirely by American consumers and businesses. The U.S. International Trade Commission concluded in 2023 that American companies and consumers "bore nearly the full cost of these tariffs because import prices increased at the same rate as the tariffs." That matches what economists warned would happen, and there's not much room for debate about these facts. In theory and practice, tariffs are paid by Americans."

Every wonder how domestic automakers best made and most profitable vehicles are light trucks and SUVs? Might it have something to do with the 25% tariff?
.
On another point, one might say this is the price of UAW.
With the 2.5% tariffs on sedans and laughable incompetence, US has largely ceded that segment to foreign outfits.

Numbers don't lie but liars use numbers.
Many of these 'american' companies are just foreign controlled LLCs setup to fleece the USA.... I mean do 'business'
I know because I worked for one of them. Complaining about the 25% tariffs while breaking ground in China to build more.

I can't help but think that you would cut your own dick off if Trump told you to.

Trump did say it was good for me and the economy.

At least you didn't hit the "main stream media liberal talking points" defense.
Trump, the Self-Described 'Tariff Man,' Does Not Understand How Tariffs Work (apparently neither does his supporters)

I'm trolling MKD a bit.  :D

I notice that Trump didn't name China YET in his first wave of tariffs.  I assume at this point he's still working on a strategy to get the borders closed.  I HOPE.  I say I hope because I hope he's not dumb enough to impose a broad range of %25 tariffs? NOBODY other than his yes men say it's a good idea. We'll see.

Someone presents a well constructed argument, complete with evidence and facts, and the brain dead Trumptard comes back with the brilliant, "neener neener neener you must have TDS!" retort.

The next four years are going to be fun.

that is kind of a funny way to put it. If some people who have historically voted democrat say this is a good idea, they are now just yes men?

It's not the tariffs that are the problem.  Both sides agree that tariffs are necessary to a certain extent.  It's the %25 tariffs imposed on as many Countries that Trump is threatening that I'm talking about.

Have you seen any data showing that this is going to be good for our economy or US Citizens?

the other thing about this is, nobody complains about Biden's yes men. you know why? Biden is the yes man in his administration. That maybe ought to scare people more than it seems to.

no, I haven't. I'm not sure if the tariffs are good or bad to be honest. It's the idea that if someone agrees with Trump they are denigrated into "Yes Men" that I was taking issue with. I just don't recall anybody using that term with Obama or Clinton or Bush.

QuoteSchumer, at-risk Dems ask Biden to hike tariffs on China

The new pressure from Capitol Hill comes from a number of at-risk Democratic senators — particularly Sens. Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey and Tammy Baldwin.
