I'm guessing that Paul Pelosi didn't see this coming.  :D
I hope he didn't.

Quote from: YoDoug on January 28, 2025, 05:36 AMI have been staying at an Airbnb for the last 9 days. The smart TV has streaming services that I don't subscribe to that were left logged into someone else's account. It's been like a free week trial for me on different services. Although when I see someone elses history and continue watching feed it feels like I am invading their privacy.
When I rent cars and use Air BnB's I always log out ov everything and clear histories... even other people's stuff. I just feel sorry for them. They must be in pain all day... being that stupid MUST hurt.

I spend an appreciable amount of time wondering how the rabble makes it through the day. Honestly, living in ignorance must be a different type of fun altogether. Each day a new adventure.

Quote from: Jeff on January 28, 2025, 03:02 AMit will be hard to justify a 25% performance gain over the 4090 for the price tag from a gamer perspective.

I don't know if you've seen anything in the last 24 hours about all the people lined up at micro centers to get their hands on one of these cards?  It's crazy.

I have to wonder if they plan on buying and then reselling @ inflated prices. From what I understand, there isn't a great stock on the 5090 cards.

It looks like there must be 100 people at the Dallas Micro center that camped over night.
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Yep, they want to flip them. They'll be listed for probably $3000 or $3500 in no time.

The 5080 FE reviews came out yesterday and they're not good. The 4090 is a better card for the most part, but you can't buy them anymore because Nvidia conveniently stopped production on them a few months ago.
Gee, I wonder why? Because they knew the 5080 is shit and people would just buy the 4090 instead.

I have a strange feeling Nvidia is going to come out with a 5080 Super or a Ti VERY soon.

I was WAY off!
People were listing them for $5500 on day 1.

Oh and people are also creating Ebay stores that sell just a printed picture of the GPU to combat scalper bots.
They have a disclaimer saying it's just a picture and if you are a human, do not buy.

Fuck bots.

I read that the entire European inventory of the cards was bought up by scalpers.

We  whine and moan about spending $900 on a Quadro card we ise to do our work
yet there are people spending $5K on a gaming cards

neurosis

I don't know who is able to afford those things but I wouldn't buy one at $2000

Bitcoin miners don't care how much it costs. They'll make that back in no time.

This is going to be an ignorant question so please forgive.. lol.

Does crypto mining still rely on GPU's?

I don't know squat about crypto mining.

I have no idea.

According to Chat GTP, not really.

"Yes, crypto mining still relies on GPUs, but their dominance has diminished in certain areas due to the rise of more specialized hardware. Here's the current landscape:

Bitcoin (BTC) – No GPUs

Bitcoin mining is almost exclusively done using ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits), which are far more efficient than GPUs.
Ethereum (ETH) – No GPUs Anymore

Ethereum transitioned to a proof-of-stake (PoS) model in 2022, eliminating the need for mining altogether.
Altcoins – Some Still Use GPUs

Cryptocurrencies like Ravencoin (RVN), Ergo (ERG), and Kaspa (KAS) are still GPU-mineable. However, profitability is lower than before due to high energy costs and competition from ASICs.
FPGA & ASIC Growth

Some newer algorithms are shifting toward FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) and ASIC solutions, reducing the viability of GPUs.

Conclusion
While GPUs are still used for mining some altcoins, they are no longer the primary choice for major cryptocurrencies. If you're considering mining with GPUs, it's crucial to check profitability, electricity costs, and coin difficulty levels before investing

On Mastercam.com a programmer from Spain is asking about performance and video cards
He post 2 links from Amazon (Europe) for an RTX400 and RTX 5000
The webiste require me to do a CAPTCHA before I was allowed to access the webpage.
That must be an effort to prevent bots and scalpers from buying the cards

Was it an international link?
I didn't have to and I'm not even signed in to my Amazon account when I went here:

https://www.amazon.com/Quadro-RTX-5000/s?k=Quadro+RTX+5000&i=electronics&rh=n%3A172282%2Cp_n_feature_six_browse-bin%3A82343550011%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A23883932011&dc&ds=v1%3AkCrR0ecULBFYRfDPOfLoFGQyL9ThE%2BM5558OjQ2mHSQ&qid=1738603695&rnid=23883919011&ref=sr_nr_p_n_feature_browse-bin_1

Edit, I hope that person knows there are different versions of those RTX5000 cards, the amount of memory is different. The 32GB cards are like $5k+
