My wife works in a small town north of us, as a court clerk. There is a story going on there that is probably going to go national soon.

a young guy in his 20's, broke down the front door of a latino family and announced that he was an ICE agent. Told them that they were under arrest. He said that there were 3 other ICE agents enroute. One of the women, he grabbed by the neck and shoved her up against the fridge and with his hand reached behind his back as though he were about to pull a weapon out of his waist line. One of the people knew enough to call 911, and another person turned on the video on her camera. the 911 operator said she was sending sheriff's deputies out. The guy, called out to the 911 operator and said, don't send the deputies, he had the situation under control. They deputies came and by the time they got there he was gone. But the evidence against him, video and the 911 call picked up a lot of the audio, is overwhelming.

to the town people's credit, a rural area that voted 70% for trump, is appalled. the prosecutor is throwing the book at him and requested $50,000 bond. He wants to make an example out of him. But then in one of the most unbelievable turns in the case, The judge, who runs as a republican but everybody knows well to be a democrat running as a republican because he'd never win if he didn't, wasn't paying attention to the details of the case. He is really big into sentencing reform, and so with only paying attention to a few details, (the guy is a volunteer fire fighter, and he impersonated a federal agent) he let him out on his Own Recognizance no money Bond.

My wife was the clerk in the courtroom and she couldn't believe what he had just done. The prosecutor who had decided to throw the book at the guy, was gone on vacation and had his assistant handling the bond hearing for him. She is in trouble with her boss right now for not objecting.

After the hearing, the judge, well known for not doing his homework on the details of a case, came strolling past my wife's desk. And she said, what did you do!!? And he said, "What?" My wife told him she's been fielding calls from news media all morning about this case and it's being run in several of the local news networks.

She told him, let me tell you about how the headlines are going to read, "A republican judge reduced a 50,000 bond on a guy who terrorized a latino family by claiming to be ICE agent." He got nervous, went into his office to read more evidence in the case. Came out, red faced, told my wife, he would be gone the rest of the day, and left.
