Quote from: Newbeeeeâ„¢ on April 18, 2025, 08:38 AMTrump had the presser - and pointed at a couple of his hommies saying "you made a billtrillion, you made a millbilltrillion" etc - perhaps that was the plan....announce tariffs, knowingly to  crash the market, and with insider trading, make a crap-ton of money, before calling a halt....

Maybe you're right...

About this anyway.  :fish:

If you don't believe there is massive welfare, Medicare and social security fraud, you lead a very sheltered life.
In my neighborhood there is a huge market for drugs and diabetes supplies.
There are signs all over saying "We buy Medicare supplies"
People who aren't sick get their free .gov supplies medical supplies and sell them for cash at drop houses.

In your opinion, what percent of people on welfare and medicare are gaming the system? (I know there are going to be some "all" comments)

When I lived with my dad in my early teens, he was someone who gamed the system so I know they're out there. In fact, I knew a few people who took advantage.

Depends on the area.
I'm willing to be that in Detroit or Flint it's probably half.

If you believe that the methods DOGE used to solve the problem were proper and effective, then you are The naive one. There is a right way and wrong way to do things. Unless you believe that the ends justify the means.

I mean, you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet, right.

You seem to hate where you live.

What methods did they use?

Like the others, I believe that it would be heavily dependent on the area. California is rife with fraud and abuse because there is no real penalty/deterrence for doing it.

As someone who suffered far too long under the regimes of the last 20+ years in the People's Republik of Kommieforniastan, I get it, and unless you've lived there, paid taxes there, you cannot fully appreciate the shithole that is California.

Sure it has it's beautiful areas and square mileage-wise there are more beautiful places than not beautiful places. The problem is no matter where you call home there, you still are under tyrannical rule and oppressive taxation no matter where in that shithole you call home.

no but I do hate my state government

here's an example

a woman my wife knows .. she's on state Medical and draws $60k/year in untaxed state benefits.
she has over a dozen doctors of various specialties who diagnose her with every disease known to man.
To them she is just a unlimited source of billing and income. I would guess the Feds and State pay north of $2 million a year in medical bills.
She lives with a man who has a full time 60/hour a week job as a heavy machinery mechanic.
He is also paid by the state $100K+/year (tax free) to take care of her.
The only care he actual does is to drive her to doctor's appointments a couple of times a month.
When he first took on the care position he billed the state honestly for his time, but her case workers ripped
him a new one. They told him to bill the max allowed, 60 hours/week or they'd fire him.

I've know of several more people who are living this way, but you get the idea.

I assume that's $100k not $100?

yes $100K tax free + $60K for his real job, I know that for a fact because the man is illiterate and I do his taxes for him at no charge.

QuoteThe Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court for an emergency injunction to block proceedings in a case involving a Freedom of Information request seeking information from the Department of Government Efficiency.

The government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington sued the budget-slashing agency earlier this year for public access to its records and its plans for overhauling the government.

The administration has claimed executive privilege, insisting that DOGE -- as a presidential advisory board -- is not subject to FOIA.
