I'm not a fan of politics so I'm probably going to start this topics only because I'm suprised nobody else has yet.
What does everyone here think of the new tariffs?
I'm a simpleton myself so I'm not going to argue with anyone but from a simpler perspective I've learned that fighting with my neighbors never did anyone any good.
Maybe we've been at peace for too long and it's just not natural human behavior. 🤷

I saw this image earlier and thought it was funny. That's the only reason I'm posting it.

I'm curious where this is going to lead. We'll have to wait and see.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

All Canada and Mexico have to do is secure their border and stop the traffic of drugs (fetanyl mainly), sex traffickers, felons etc.. and these new tariffs go away. It's not rocket science.
But Trudeau decided...nah, fuck the border my dick is bigger than your dick. I believe he's catching a lot of hell for that.

asking conservatives if they like tariffs, is like asking a union member if they like going on strike. Both are painful, costly, and unpleasant. But sometimes they are necessary to accomplish a goal, and hopefully short lived.

There are also all kinds of US goods that are blocked entirely from export to Cananda.
Many that aren't blocked face steep tariffs making export to Canada costly.
The US/Candian border is the largest unprotected border in the world.
Neither the US or Canada has made much of an effort to patrol it.
I think what Trump is really after is for Canada to make it easier to do business in Canada.

Meanwhile 2 large businesses have packed up and moved south.
Amazon has closed it's Quebeq warehouses and Stellantis has shuttered a truck plant and moved to it the US.
In both cases they sited heavy handed government and labor practices as the case of their actions.

I've known lots of Canadians over the years and in every case, they were economic refuges escaping
the socialist nirvana of Canada to work in the US.

If the traffic of drugs (fetanyl mainly), sex traffickers, felons etc.. was a problem with the Canadian border, wouldn't the problem be worse in Canada?

I would imagine that it is based on the number of "clients" or "victims" these people can exploit.
That and the U.S. has 9x the population of Canada.

Another question that I haven't seen anyone ask; how much fentanyl or other drugs are smuggled in to Canada from the US?

Any answer you find is most likely speculation unless it's from a source like ICE or Homeland Security. Even then it's probably an educated guess at best.

That answer charges as politically needed. When conservatives claim the southern border is a route of fentanyl the libs post numbers that claim most of it comes from China via Canada. When Trump talks tariffs on Canada the fentanyl coming across the border is minimal.
