Anyone watch this? Pretty scathing accusations against Woody Allen! He's guilty! Or is he?

Here's a really good read from The Guardian. It's long but worth the read...

While watching it and thinking 'Woody sure does look guilty', I kept thinking "something seems 'off' about the adult Dylan Farrow. I couldn't quite wrap my head around it but, there were red flags to me.

I think that the evidence is stacked against him. Beyond speculation is the fact that he married his adopted daughter.
Bit of a red flag there.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's pervy just based on the marrying the adopted daughter thing. But these are not new accusations. They have been thoroughly investigated and Woody was never charged with a crime. Add to that Mia Farrow is a total whackjob and I'm not sure I believe a single word she says.

She might have gotten her panties in a twist when her husband took up with her daughter. Ex's have been known to get vindictively... inventive. Plus she does strike me as a whackjob.

Farrow has a history of being that way. And one of her other kids says she coached the alleged molestation victim from an early age.

That was Moses, one of her adopted kids.

As that article explains, the docu left out a ton of info. Conveniently either briefly glossed over them or completely omitted them. It was one sided. I don't know if Woody did or didn't do what he was accused of. That wasn't the point of this thread.

Read the article if you have time. A bit long. Very well written.

Read the article?!!

How do expect us to spout off uninformed BS if we do stuff like read. :rtfm:

I have had this docu on my list of things to watch, but it's not really high on the list.
I thought it might be interesting, but after reading the Guardian article it does sound like it is very one-sided.

I always thought of Woody Allen as weird and kinda creepy, and I think he validated that by marrying his adopted daughter.
Having said that, it is really not fair to lump him in with proven creeps like Cosby, Epstein, and Weinstein who were actually charged and convicted for their predatory sexual assaults against women and girls.

Whether we believe Woody was legitimately investigated or simply given a pass, the fact remains that he was never charged with any crime.
I will likely still watch the docu, but will take it with a grain of salt considering the Guardian article and their claim that quite a few facts were omitted by the producers.

The way it portrayed Mia Farrow with a glowing light. Or Dylan Farrow as a level headed adult with no psychological issues. The entire documentary was slanted to one side the entire series.

Someone not knowing any of the particulars of this famous case and watching this would be 100% convinced Woody was guilty.

Investigative journalism is supposed to evaluate and explore both parties involved. To that extent, I agree this was a one-sided hatchet job.

And how the Farrow clan saying "Moses betrayed us! How could he do that?" (Moses had come out saying Woody Allen is innocent of all accusations. That it is Mia - not Woody - who is the real whack job)

^^^ That struck me as odd.

The whole series had a bogus vibe to me. A 'Me Too' on steroids type of feeling.

And yes, it was odd of Woody marrying Soon-Yi at such a young age. However, Soon-Yi is now 47 and they've been married now for 29 years. Not once has any controversy come from Woody. The controversies stem from attacks on him.

So, I don't know. Yes Jim, he's weird. My whole beef was how this documentary twisted and distorted the facts, concealing and/or omitting very crucial elements to this case.

Yes, they both say she was over 18 when their physical relationship started, and that it was completely consensual.
I think still being married 29 years later supports that claim, but it's still just weird and creepy to think a guy his age back then could begin dating his adopted daughter.

Some experts on coercive control would argue that he could have begun grooming her long before she reached the age of consent, but that could not be proven, nor is it technically illegal.  Just creepy...  :w00t:

On a related note, I just finished watching the Starz series 'Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult'.

Unlike the HBO series 'The Vow', this series gives much more insight on how this cult leader used coercive control to build a harem of sex slaves under the guise of a self-help group that focused on personal and professional development.

The series is produced by India Oxenberg, who was one of the actual victims, and the story is told from her POV.
It's amazing how young, impressionable women could be lured into something like that, and even more amazing that some of these victims were educated, successful, professional women who were also fooled by this guy.

Anyway, the series was very good IMO, and well worth a look.
It's a great object lesson for young people to see how easily they can be led astray without even realizing it.
