It's difficult for us to understand.

I'm not sure that it's most of you.  :D
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Quote from: SuperHoneyBadger on February 11, 2025, 01:35 PMNo boots on the ground in Afghanistan this year, then? Lots of lithium for Elon's gigafactories, would be a shame if someone were to... destabilize the whole region. Even just to stop China from getting too cozy with the Taliban/AQ.

We need to be lithium digging in Chile before china does.

You are not sure of anything.

You have been proven wrong on every asset. :)

Quote from: beej on February 11, 2025, 02:17 PMthis caught me so far off guard, I haven't wrapped my head around it yet. The King of Jordan did not say he was opposed to it. He said that some of the Arab countries had ideas as well, but he wanted to propose them in private rather than in front of the media. I'm interested in what those look like. I'm still waiting for somebody else, on the Dem side to propose something. I'd listen to their ideas as well. And as far as Trumps idea, it hasn't really been very well defined yet, so it's really hard to have an opinion on whether it is workable or not.

One thing that he is right about, as far as i can tell. Something needs to be done quickly to help the people living there now, and it's going to take a long time to make that place livable. I just see what Trump said as a starting proposal. Progressives should come up with their own proposal. Why don't they already have one?

Ah, not interested in the Mideast I see.

That's fine, it's a long way away.

Every administration has had a Israel/Palestine peace proposal since shortly after Israel was created. If you don't know what they were, consider it a homework lesson. :)

Who knows, maybe moving all the Palestinians out to build luxury condos will work. If that is the case, it is surely a kind humanitarian gesture by Trump. :)

Or maybe RStewart is correct and Trump is just saying outrageous shit to spur a response.

Or maybe, as I believe, Trump is just blabbing on about nonsense as he is inclined to do.

Isn't this like Chapter one in Art Of The Deal (no I haven't read it). This worked with Canada and Panama.  Why not in the middle east?

I can see why you like Trump so much. You're both full of crap.  :D

I expect you know I haven't read that shit.  :hrhr:

Did it work? Did he (Trump) win important concessions with Canada and Panama? Enduring concessions?

What are (or will be) the unintended consequences of wielding the economic power of the U.S. like a bully against our historical allies and trading partners? Time will tell how that will work out.

Regardless, the Mideast is nothing like dealing with trading partners. I personally think Trump was just running his mouth and didn't say anything of substance. We'll see what happens when it fleshes out a little more.

I am interested, but I have to confess, it is more complicated there than I could possibly grasp with my little pea brain. I know that every admin has basically called for a 2 state solution. And in 80 years that still hasn't worked. It sounds like trump is calling for a 3 state solution because he said the west bank should remain as is.
