Smit, from your article...

"A program to provide mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth fleeing Venezuela was disbanded."

I am sure the plight of the dozens LGBTQ+ youth fleeing Venezuela is a big deal for some...but personally, I think if we are going to focus on that specific demographic, the money would be better spent locally. You know, like they say in the airplane safety films...take care of yourself first then help your neighbor.

I think mental health is a big issue in the United States and the world too. On many different demographics.
But nobody is suggesting expanding mental health coverage in the United States either.

I understand the LBGTQ thing is a big deal to many people in this country. I don't get it, I guess a lot of people think it's a choice they make. It seems kind of Talibanistic to me.

But I digress.

If the people in power are determined to cut it, then use a scalpel, not a hammer.

Be transparent and honest about it.

It's only a big deal when you single them out to receive certain services like this program was doing. But you know, dims are really good at singling people out aka racism.

I thought this was interesting.  This popped up as a result of the political right misrepresenting a clip of Joe Rogan talking to Bono and cutting the conversation up to be taken out of context.

What ever you think of Bono, or USAID -

"Tracking Anticipated Deaths from USAID Funding Cuts
Brooke Nichols has launched online tracking tools that capture estimated increases in mortality and disease spread for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, and other diseases as a result of the near-total freeze in US foreign aid funding and programming. "

https://www.bu.edu/sph/news/articles/2025/tracking-anticipated-deaths-from-usaid-funding-cuts/

There is no way this model is 100% accurate?

Food wasting away in Texas

https://www.reuters.com/world/us-aid-cuts-leave-food-millions-mouldering-storage-2025-05-16/

Summary
  • More than 60,000 metric tonnes of U.S. food aid sitting in storage
  • Food stocks stuck due to USAID cuts and are at risk of expiry, sources say
  • Trump's aid cuts come amid rising global hunger levels
  • USAID decommissioning disrupts aid distribution, aid workers say

Not our problem, another country can pay for it for a change.

The whole point of getting ahead of disease in other Countries is so it doesn't cost us more when it reaches the US. It's not our problem, until it is.

I feel the same way about cutting funding for things like Cancer research.

There had to be a way to deal with USAID other than, as Joe keeps saying, throwing the baby out with the bath water?
