Quote from: neurosis on March 04, 2025, 10:10 AMThe EPI has a cost of living calculator for raising a family. I think I've posted it on this forum and the other forum in the past. If you've looked at that calculator year after year, the yearly cost of supporting a two child family and the US average family yearly income, the gap has been getting wider by the year.

I've never had kids. I don't know how anyone can afford them these days. I can barely afford a pet.  :D
We had 4... on a single wage earner's salary... in The People's Republik of Kommieforniastan. AND they played youth sports, and 2 were Boy Eagle Scouts.

It CAN be done. People choose not to do what it takes... I'm just sayin'.

So there are enough well paying jobs in the US for 300million people to live exactly like you did?
I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I don't know. "Well paying" is a relative term. Kinda like calling someone "rich".

Today I would say I am "well paid". Early in my career when I had 3 kids... I would not make that same claim. Not eeeeeven close.

We made choices. We ALL make choices.

beej

the cost per kid is a lot higher at 1 or 2 kids per family than it is at 4 or 5 kids per family. when you have more kids, you have "hand-me-downs" both in clothes and in sports like ball gloves, as well as toys. when my kids were in Catholic school, they discounted the price per kid if you had multiple kids enrolled. there are a lot of things like this, that those cost of raising a family calculator don't take into account.

Last I heard there were 330 million.

Aren't you gonna save everybody??

Or the other 30 million don't count??

They must be "Chillon" :D

$300 million??

As far as I see you could cut that in half cause most are doing well.

Then you can cut that in half cause most are getting By.

Then cut that in half for those who are scrapping by.

Hmmmm that leaves about 30 million. :)
