And this isn't just about me. Several people have voiced their concerns over the hostility and general disrespect on the forum lately.

Just to point out the dichotomy...

In the general public, in many places having an opinion is "intolerable" to many....

In the general public, it seems as though no one wants to pay for anything they don't agree with with...

I would submit that this forum is a reflection of exactly where the public is in general.

I hate "this one" I hate "that one", that policy "sux", their policy is "racist"..

The division of "We the People" would seem to be complete.

What I always find funny, and while I have heard personal stories to the contrary of this, it has yet to be my experience...

Take a group mixture here of any 8 of us, put us at a dinner table, and the discussion is almost certainly going to center around those things we have in common and personal stories that we can all relate to....it's unlikely a heated discussion would break out over the things we already "know" we disagree over...

We need to get to a point online where we can disagree without being disagreeable.

Social media has helped so many people, myself included, stay in touch with people that would be difficult otherwise and the flip side of social media is it has brought out the worst in many of us, yes I am including myself. There are times I have had to step back and think about what it is I am saying....

As a people we have FAR more in common than we we have things that divide us.

I know, this forum needs a good uniting thread like an "everyone against the vegan" type, but alas my stink bait just doesn't reel em in like it used to. I wish I could help guys but I am out of ideas.

For me anyway, I don't mind hearing other peoples opinions as long as I'm not forced in to a one sided conversation where I'm expected to sit here and be lectured.

We need to get to a point online where we can disagree without being disagreeable.

Need to remember, communication is one thing, comprehension is another. Sometimes we need to ask ourselves, "can this person comprehend what is being said?"

If it is determined the individual cannot, then further discussion is pointless.

Many times people will think they have "won" an argument, when in reality others have decided the topic is beyond their understanding and chose to stop replying.

In all of the years of back & forth between this forum and Emc, I don't think there has really been a single opinion changed on either side.

Well, if you look at the forum member stats, there are less than less than 100 people that have full member status. Going even further, the majority of interaction is from about 25-30 users. I'd say it's only about 96%-97% percent.

My only comment about the current status of discord is simply, don't bite the bait.
