Quote from: CNCAppsJames on February 25, 2025, 12:53 PMI know for a fact you could hear a pin drop in that plane over all the squeaking and stuff.

I was flying into ONT one night. Santa Ana winds were doing their thing. On eastward approach (contra). We're flying over Pomona and the plane is bouncing all over the place. We come over the landing zone, flared, then all the sudden we're throttle up full power. Feels like we're going vertical but obviously not. Scary AF. We level off and the pilot comes over the intercom and tells us there was wind shear and rather than risk "an issue" we're going to go around and try again.

At Ontario they always say Fly in on the Mornings. :)

Quote from: Bucky Cornstarch on February 25, 2025, 12:16 PMJust think of all the money we're saving!

ATC cuts and issues have been rampant for years. Little to no maintenance of critical systems in high traffic regions, radar goes down on the eastern seaboard and they have to telephone in positions from binoculars. Its a sh*tshow for the FAA, and recruitment numbers are still down despite the pushes for new hires. I think the predictions are ~40% increase in air traffic by 2045. So I agree, not the place to save money, as the FAA and current, past admins have been trying.

Norway's all digital towers are likely the answer, in Bodo they turned the ATC job remote. It can use IR cameras to see in the snow and 1 person can control up to 4 (small) airports at once from a central location. A smart way to save money over time, but I bet the camera rigs cost a pretty penny.

This seems like a communication issue. The private pilot wasn't clear on the instructions even though he repeated them correctly.

I agree with that but the private jet also should have had a visual.

I know , I know I'm a doombass and a monday morning QB. :D

But shit look out the window.

Pucker Factor 11.

I love what Sully said after landing in the Hudson;

QuoteOne way of looking at this might be that, for 42 years, I've been making small regular deposits in this bank of experience: education and training, And on January 15, the balance was sufficient so that I could make a very large withdrawal.
