Couldn't agree more. A few beers? All day. A toke or two, I can't keep up at all and get very self conscious, so all the fills and improv goes out the window as I struggle to maintain time.

Quote from: Bucky Cornstarch on February 24, 2025, 09:51 AMI've been playing bass in bands for close to 40 years, and have enough friends/bandmates who died way too young to prove it. My main bass is what the kids today call a Fender Duff McKagan model, which pisses me off because I've been playing my ivory white with black neck PJ bass since before it was called that, and I aint getting any royalties.

what genres do you play? Playing for 40 years, I bet you've played a wide range.

Started in the punk/indie/alternative scene but have played a bunch of stuff including rockabilly, country, metal. etc. Toying with doing an orchestra pit thing for a local play coming up, if they'll have me.

RE dead friends: I inherited a Kay 3/4 upright bass from my best friend/bandmate when he passed 11 years ago, but I get caught up with emotion when I pick it up, so it lives at my stepson's house. I also have a Telecaster Deluxe from a different (dead) friend/bandmate, which resides on the wall in my music room. Getting blackout drunk everyday is bad, k?

I had a minister once who told me his children were taken aback when they found "Alice Cooper Goes To Hell" in his record collection.

Thank you Del.

I have been browsing but not walked in the store.

I have no clue on what to even look at.

I had a Samick acoustic that I loved.

Due to my many divorces my Triumph motorcycle and many guitars were sold at discount prices. :D

But I would like to find just one that wont make my fingers burn and Make me a better player. ;D

I have a Tele, Les Paul and a Washburn acoustic.
Haven't played regularly in 20 years.

One of our designers here at work designed and got a patent on a guitar.

I did all the programming for him and we cut it on our NCs when things were a little slow.

It's pretty cool, works like he imagined it. It's an acoustic guitar with a volume control that doesn't require an amp.

He is shopping it around to guitar makers so I don't want to share too much info.

how many of you guys can read sheet music? There is an old joke that goes something like, "nothing stops a good guitarist in his tracks like a copy of sheet music."

I can read sheet music on a very basic level, but nothing like my piano playing friends.

Not at all other than the time signature and key song is in.

I messed around with the guitar decades ago. I couldn't read music and know nothing about it really. I just learned some chords and played some simple stuff. At one time I could play the acoustic start of "Stairway to heaven" very well, and that was as far as I got. I've long since forgotten it now. :(

I bought an acoustic guitar about 10 years ago with the intention of spending some time with it but soon it was put on the back burner because of other stuff.

Now that I have a "little" more time on my hands I should give it another try. I'd rather not pay money for lessons so do you guys have web sources to go to for help learning to play.
