I have a FreeBSD pc, a Manjaro  pc, and an Ubuntu media server.  This laptop is used for work sometimes so unfortunately, it has to have windows on it.

Isn't it simple to revert it back to the style of windows 10? I'm waiting until the last minute to get windows 11.
Supposedly this computer is terrible and won't run it because of the i7-7700k cpu.

From what I can tell, the only way to get the old task bar and start menu back is by using a third party app.

This is from about a year ago so it might not work anymore.
Skip to about the 1:40 mark.

I'm trying to find it, but there is a guy that has a massive list of changes all in a zip file.
I think they're all DOS commands and you just download them and run em.
He did the same thing for Windows 10 when it dropped.

The setting I'd like to change, is the height of the taskbar. It takes up too much realestate. In Windows 10 you could shrink the icons and that would change the taskbar height.  This task bar is ridiculous. lol

I'm not real fond of the menu either, but I can live with it.

That used to be a registry change, but they "fixed" that for the user.

As of 8 months ago it's windhawk, explorer patcher or start11.

I can't vouch for any of those programs though obviously since I'm still in Windows 10.

Yea, that's what I've read too. That's why I was wondering if anyone had experience with windhawk. It looks interesting.

Planned obsolescence. But Microsoft are carbon neutral and have their green foundation yada yada....But throw away your perfectly usable hardware and upgrade because it's definitely NOT about consumerism and all landfill sites are green.

That Taskbar is what you get when you let Cuppertino dictate UX instead of people that do more than e-mail and word processing.

So many aspects of Windows 11 are annoying AF. I got on it rather early in it's existence because I support CAMplete for Matsuuras on the West Coast and I didn't want any support surprises so I took one (in the shorts) for the team. And pretty much hate every minute of it.

And now with all this AI shit all over everything wanting to fuck with my work-flow it's especially annoying.

I still think Windows 2k Pro was the best O/S they ever created.  All the stability of Windows NT and Plug and Play.

Really? I thought that version sucked.
My 2 picks for best are 98 and XP from a user perspective. Security risks and all that jazz aside.

I've been using Windows 11 for over a year on a gaming PC at home. There is plenty of screen space on that PC with two 27" monitors.

On my laptop it's just annoying.

I'm still on Windows 10 at work and not sure I want to change.

Leading up to 2kpro, it was my favorite version of windows at that point. It was just rock solid. I remember hating XP when it first came out and then eventually got used to it.

Pre 2kpro, I remember having to constantly re-install Windows because it would become unstable. I never had that problem with 2kpro.

Back in those days I was only using Windows at work with my home PC's running FreeBSD and slackware.

Maybe I'm thinking of Windows Millenium Edition. WinME

I skipped that era and made the ultra wise decision to go from 98 to XP to Vista!   :realmad:
