The trick I was told is when you are buying packaged food ( bread, etc.) is look at the ratio of total carbs to dietary fiber. The higher the ratio the more processed and refined those carbs are. Optimal is 5:1 or less. 10:1 is not too bad. When you buy bread or other grains look for whole grain that ahs a good ratio.

You Heard me say "Fuck"

I can't have Bread , not even Low carb .

What pisses me off is no tortillas.  Or English Muffins or Bagels. ;D

No Rice , No Beans, No Taters.

Fruit = sugar. Nope. :(

Lipitor has kept me alive the last 25 years

Look up Neal Barnard or Cyrus Khambatta. Cyrus is a type 1 diabetic that has dedicated his PhD studies to helping diabetics. His program has tremendous success and it does not restrict whole food plant carbs including some fruit. It also gets people off medication. His research along with many others shows that it is in fact a high fat diet that causes insulin resistance. Excess fat in the cells blocks the insulin receptors.

By no means am I telling anyone to stop taking their prescribed meds. I am however suggesting that you could very well eliminate the need for them by making dietary and other lifestyle changes.

Diet helped but not enough.

Doug, what about that balance of nature they advertise. Of course everyone puts out a supplement that keeps death away. 😂

Did you Flatline??

I did at about 215 lbs.

I'm trying again.

Down from 228 lbs.

It was my fault though.

I'm just so used to the carbs (potatoes , rice , Pasta) on my plate it feels naked without. ;)

In 2019 I was around 220 to 225 lbs. I am 5' 11" tall. My BP, LDL, and Glucose P were high. I knew I needed to make a change. I went full in at an MMA/BJJ gym. 5-10+ hours a week of intense training. I dropped down to 195 lbs in 4-5 months without really changing my diet. Then I stalled out. So I started using a calorie tracker and dropped another 5 to 10 lbs. I still had a gut and struggled to lose anymore. Then I decided to try a plant based diet. In a few months I went from 185 to 165 and around 12%-15% body fat. The first time in my adult life I had visible abs. Then I started adding more weight training into my workouts. I started trying to eat in a small surplus to gain muscle. I also stopped sticking strictly to a plant based diet. Since then I eat a mostly plant based diet. My weight fluctuates between 175-185 depending on how strict I keep my diet. I don't have quite as defined of abs anymore but I am considerably stronger. I have recently started a strict diet and training regiment again though as I want to compete later this year and I want to be in peak physical condition. Sticking to a whole foods plant based diet is key to ramping up my training. I notice a huge drop in energy levels and recovery when I stray from that diet.

Long story short, I was able to really change my life with intense workouts/training, but the real health benefits came from stricter diet. Also The training I do now is probably not sustainable in 10 years so diet will become more of a factor.

I'm creeping up on 250, my cholesterol is pretty bad with triglycerides so high it indicates insulin resistance.
Basically I'm a poster child of all the things I say carnivores shouldn't be.
I guess it's the ice cream, milk and cheesecake.
 Gotta get some discipline 😞
