Yeah, yeah, I know James, that place is something, something buffalo excrement lol.

Anywho, I spent all last week out the there for work - Victorville/Barstow area (desert).  We had a big thing going on at Fort Irwin Army training base.  Flew into Ontario, instead of LAX and it seemed easier to get thru everything.
I will say that pretty much everyone I had interaction with was super nice (maybe everyone's high)??.  I'll also say that there isn't shit to do around this area hahaha, eat and drink, that's about it.
I got off early one day and decided to drive across the mountains going towards Bakersfield on 58.  Beautiful drive, for sure.  Went to three breweries in Bakersfield, then headed back to the desert.
I did get to enjoy some really good Socal Mexican food - my fav!
I see why some people live out there - the climate and beautiful views.

Coolest part of the trip was getting to meet the Secretary of the Army and a 4-star.

Congrats. and yea the mexican food is the Best. It's just better in Cali. I've had Texas and many other states.

There is just no comparison.

Since you were in the area I would have suggested The Sequoia national park.

Wish I would have known you were going there. Ft. Irwin is remote, but something you missed right next door was Calico Ghost Town. Our Boy Scout Troop used to camp there every 2nd weekend in October. Out near therr is where I used to shoot long range. Out off Hodge Rd. about 3.5mi. west of I-15.

As far as Mexican food RESTAURANTS goes... no comparison.  That shiite in Texas they try to pass off as Mexican food...  ersatz. My best friend's mom and Grandma made the best Mexican food I've ever had. They were from there, and immigrated the right way, the legal way.

We ran around that part of Cali a lot when the kids were in 29 Palms. I loved it.

With regard to the climate, bear in mind, you were there in March.

Visit in June/July when it's 120° and let me know how you like it.

Damn, I drove right past that ghost town.  Meant to go thru and tour it, just never made the time...
I'm sure I'll be back out there at some point.
