When I was told about the Real ID  I brought my birth certificate with it folded about 2" x 2" ;D . They wouldn't take that one and I asked why I had to provide the certificate when they received one from me when I was 16. They stated that it was stored on some kind of micro storage and it had a limited storage time.

I mean... If requiring an ID to vote is racist, isn't requiring one to travel, or to access a .gov facility also racist?

I don't think any of those is racist. :headscratch:

I show my ID every time I vote.

I don't recall having to show my ID when entering a federal building, but I haven't been in a federal building in many years.

:Edit: When the topic changes to stopping people on the streets and demanding to see their papers, that's a way different optic.

NEVER underestimate a bureaucrat's ability to defy any and all logic. EVER.

That said; #RAYCIS ... #REPORTED

Haven't really planned on getting the star id or whatever it's called.
Passport or common access card trumps the new id requirement.

when I got mine, I took a day off work to go get it renewed, waited in line for an hour only to find out that they wouldn't except my birth certificate because it came from the hospital where I was born rather than the state. I had no idea. I had used the birth certificate for everything up until that point. I had to go to a local HHS to apply for a new birth certificate. that took a couple of hours. then went back to the original line and waited another hour. It was frustrating at the time, but it's done now.
Had the same thing happened to me at the Los Angeles federal building. It was a Chinese birthing room as far as I could tell. Chi-coms could get baby passports and citizenship for the two months they are in country. Then return for CCP induction as dual citizen for eventual return as operatives in all levels of US government
