Anyone ever tried to clone a drive and use it in a PC that doesn't have identical hardware?

I'm going to try this using two Mini-PC's running Ubuntu Server.

The two Mini_PC's aren't that different.  Just a minor processor difference.

I do have a sort of a funny story -

I tried to purchased a Mini-PC that I knew was going to come from China. I noticed that it got held up in customs and realized that it just wasn't in the cards.

I decided to get the same Mini-PC on Amazon which didn't include any kind of tariff charge.

On the same day I ended up getting both Mini-PC's and didn't have to pay a tariff on the PC coming from China.

I looked on their website and in tiny writing, they say that they report the sale to be so small that it doesn't trigger a tariff charge.

I don't know if that's true, but I got the PC and didn't pay a tariff.

I don't really need two of these things but I'll make use of them.

Yes. AS a matter of fact. 2x

Took an SSD out of a Dell laptop, put it in a new one, after about 3 of 4 re-boots (driver updates presumably)  it was fine. They were not drastically different, but different enough.

Last month, I took the boot drive out of my wife's old Precision 7710, dropped it into her "new" Precision 7750... and after putting in the BitLocker password she was up and running in no time.

Kubuntu running on our 2x macpros, did have an issue with the one lappy.
Age same - model same - Processors the same - ssd the same - graphics was slightly different which gave a white screen on one. Took a bit of effing about to get the right settings.
Saying this 'cus Kubuntu is Ubuntu but with additions

It failed..  It's a drive label issue.  I'll figure it out tomorrow. I've reached the cocktail portion of the evening.  lol

I don't mind rebuilding the thing. It's mostly docker images at this point so I only have to install the OS and docker, get the links up to the network shares, and the docker stuff is quick.

I used dd to create the image and balena etcher with an m.2 drive dock to write it.
