Quote from: mkd on April 29, 2025, 07:49 AMI think Trump is genius for trying to offset income tax for tariffs, like has been done in our not so distant past.

I mean, there are like, 5 other people who think that too, so you're not alone.  :D

Most of those are the people advising Trump.

How is showing how much the tariffs raise the price of consumer goods considered to be hostile or political?

Its really not tough to understand. Transparency is only good if it makes the other side look bad.

Shrunk GDP due to calculating companies front running the tariffs, but actual growth of $5 trillion in investments Trump has attracted might work out great.

Ya know... you probably should not post a fact like that. The broke back boys just might have an anyeruism.

QuoteCustoms duties — a reflection of Trump's tariffs — generated $15.6 billion in April, more than double the $6.3 billion collected during the same month last year

Just curious what the "tariffs are bad" crew have to say about this very obvious development?

My answer, assuming you read the article, would be that it depends on whether you care about the US debt or not. If you don't, then why not?  Tax cuts for everyone!

I'd say he's doing a good job trying to un-fuck what the Pedo Joe admin did over the last 4 years.
Rome wasn't built in a day, it's probably going to take the full 4 years if not more to get this country back on track to where it should be.

Ironically, the last time we had record tax revenue in the month of April was in 2022. Who was president in 2022?  :headscratch:

The difference, is that in 2022, the current YTD deficit in April was only 360 Billion where today it's over 1 Trillion. I think we're still on pace to almost hit a 2 Trillion dollar deficit (may get better with tariffs) but that's pre-tax cuts.

If you look at most years, there is always a massive drop in the deficit in April. I'm not saying that Joe had a great economy. I'm just saying that I'm not sure this is an indicator of one.

That's why I couldn't tell if he actually read the article.

It's all related. April is tax time. That is the biggest revenue month every year. In 2021 the gov was in full Covid spending, they were printing money and giving it to every corp and NGO they could. That is why 2022 April was huge. All those taxes paid on all that printed money received. Likewise that is why the deficit is huge now.
