I posted this at emastercam and may reach different people here.

We recently purchased a Nomura Swiss machine and got a quote for a Mastercam post for the machine. Our dealer sounded confident they could provide  a post that would do what we need and Mastercam could handle it well.

But...I was talking with the Nomura apps guy yesterday and he was pretty adamant that we could never get Mastercam to post properly for a Swiss machine. He recommended partmaker from Autodesk for programming. He also told me a few things about Mastercam that I know are not correct too so I'm talking his advice with a grain of salt. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to output code with a dialed in post.

Do any of you Swiss guys have any luck programming with Mastercam?

TIA for any replies.

I asked about this product years ago and was told it only supports a few different models/brands
I don't know it's state of development today

I would not touch an AD product if it were free.

From what I've heard, again word-of-mouth so grain of salt, Mastercam cannot properly synch multiple code streams, especially when you have three or more channels.  I hear Esprit and Solid Cam are good for Swiss.

TopSolid have a Swiss module.

And TopSolid turning supports multiple channels in their standard turning product and requires no addons to support it. (and it works, as I have used it first hand)
CNC Softwares own 'lil piece of Poison Ivy.

I saw that advertised in an email. When I contacted our dealer that is what I was asking about and it kind of surprised me they didn't want to talk about it. They instead put together a presentation showing programming the Swiss like a lathe with live tooling and pushed a post to handle all the code.

The post writers at Postability have pretty much handled anything I've ever thrown at them so I didn't think much about it until the Nomura apps guy sounded so certain Mastercam couldn't do it effectively.

Yes, in some cases Products are distributed directly by Mastercam or one of their Partners, rather than the dealer..

Mastercam has four channels internally (I use all four) and with a little magic you can run more externally (haven't done it but it's in the post manual).

Thanks for the correction; what I heard may have been out of date.

Mastercam replied to your topic on emc in case you didn't see.

So Mastercam Lathe now supports four simultaneous channels, so you can programme and simulate pinch turning with just lathe? That is a good step up.

I use the four channels for our horizontal mills but the channels don't care what they're programmed for.

LOL. I was going to ask what in the hell that was but I didn't want to bring attention to it.
