Should Amazon and others show tariff surcharges for each purchase?

Quote from: gcode on May 03, 2025, 12:30 PMYes.... the LA dockworkers union is starting to whine.
NPR made it sound like the end of the world on Friday.
Personally, I have not noticed any difference in the number of trucks on the freeway

This morning NPR ran a segment from the Port of LA.
They said shipments were down 35% year to year.
There were noticeably fewer trucks on the freeway this morning.
As a commuter, that was really nice. If I made my living driving trucks it would be not so nice.

I have a friend that works in the port of Seattle. He tells me that the local media coverage so far has been overblown.

I'll talk to him again in a couple of weeks and see if that's still the case.

35% year to year is significant, but certainly not the end of the world.
Of course, what I'm hearing from NPR is totally one sided.

Quote from: neurosis on May 01, 2025, 06:45 AMI'm just trying to see if anyone has a good reason that it shouldn't be listed. Other than not wanting to inform people how much this is costing them.

It's 100% transparency.

They could just add a button beside the "Chinnna" button, labeled "Buy American Made"

80% of the garbage on Amazon is just chinese rip-offs anyway.  Yes, I usually spend extra to source locally, have for most of my life.  Yes this makes my wife roll her eyes

I just noticed that one of our local tool vendors is adding tariff surcharges to their quotes now.
