I get the impression that you never thought he was an intellectual, you've been waiting for proof, and now you think you have it.

He lost me as being an intellectual a long time ago. I didn't need this as proof. Listening to him talk was proof enough.

Typically, when they do these debates, they end up looking more like Jay Leno's "Jaywalking". This was more the opposite. It doesn't really matter what I think because I'm not his target audience. I'm wondering if this will change the opinion of his audience.

I do get it. There are a lot of people out there that are worth listening to. Back in the day, you used to have to buy a book (thanks micro). Today, you can just listen to someone who's already read all the books. 

That explains a lot about this country. Probably the world.

It's why guys in ties and stethoscopes are making YouTube videos. And selling snake oil on the side.

Yea. We've always had to rely on or trust people who are better educated, more informed, even just more intelligent than us for information. Doctors, teachers, even your mechanic.

It feels like the difference is in the ability to detect, or even want to detect, who's selling us the snake oil?

Not all of these modern day intellectuals are bad. The difference is how they're able to reach you. It's the same for news related media these days.  I feel like the independent journalists have a lot more to lose while, at the same time, don't have the restraints that our corporate owned media do. They can tell the truth about something without having to push the agenda of who's running the corporation. I guess that can be good or bad?

In his attempt to sound intelligent, he tried to over intellectualize some of his answers. It makes him sound like a moron when it's obvious that he was just deflecting. He did it several times. I'm sure he thought that he was debating a bunch of moron college students and I don't know if he was set up or if there are just more intelligent athiest per capita? 

If you put Beej in that room and told him to defend his faith in that same group, Beej would have done a better job.

The difference is that we're not selling ourselves (literally) as intellectuals.

Sure, we all value our own opinions?
