I've tried to sing suspicious minds at karaoke and I have the singing voice of two cats fighting. It was pretty awesome. Our old softball team had penalties for striking out etc. Having to sing a Karaoke song at the bar after the game was one of the penalties.

I've always since I was a kid loved Elvis.

Quote from: neurosis on June 23, 2025, 06:14 AMSame here. I was listening to Deep Purple and Judas Priest in the 4th grade. The Beatles was grandpa music to me.

I worked at a top 40 radio station in 1976. They had a room full of albums that record companies sent them that they didn't play. We could go in there and take whatever struck our fancy. That's where I got Judas Priest Sad Wings of Destiny. Fantastic album. They weren't well know yet.

I don't care for much of their music after British Steel.

Here is early Judas Priest. Rob Halford has hair.

When I quit drinkin' and dopin' I discovered that most of the music I listened to sucked.

Probably a generational thing?
IMO they are the best live metal band and Halford is the king of metal vocals.
I think their stuff after British Steel is their best work during the 80's from Screaming for Vengeance to Ram it Down.

I didn't care too much for their "Turbo" era.

Screaming for Vengeance changed my life.  :D  Probably set the stage for the heavier music I listen to even today.

I looked like I could have been Glenn Tiptons twin all through high school.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Many Priest fans didn't. It grew on me. Probably because I practically wore out Priest Live during that era.

From British Steel forward, they found a formula for their music that made a lot of money by appealing to the most number of people. A lot of bands do that. Grand Funk was the poster child for that. They went from "I'm Your Captain" to Locomotion.
I do really like "A Touch of Evil" from Painkiller.

Sad Wings of Destiny is my favorite Priest album.

One thing that drives me absolutely bananas is "Another Thing Coming". The saying is another THINK coming.
As in, "If you think this, then, you have another think coming."

I'm just not a fan of the 3 minute radio friendly stuff.

IMO, still one of the best track 1+2 album openers of all time.

For anyone who likes Priest, if I may, there is a band called White Wizzard that made one, and only one, album with the 'right' lineup before it devolved. Some of them were a Priest coverband, and it comes through in the original material, especially the vocals. Very good NWOBHM outing, 2010 release, but sounds timeless (even has Headed Out to the Highway as a bonus track). One of my favourite albums of the genre, one I can put on any time at all and enjoy cover to cover:

Priest still rocks live

Styx too for that matter - I didn't consider myself a fan until I saw them live

Alice Cooper and Priest will be here later this year. Haven't decided if I want to go.

Have you seen Alice Cooper in concert before?
I saw him a few years ago with Motley Crue.
He's still got it, great visual show.

I saw them when I was in high school for the Schools Out tour. They were hanging him back then. I saw him in 2019 and also last August.

I was really glad to see the remaining original members put out new music. I think they're one of the best rock and roll bands ever.

I can't remember if he did that when I saw him but he did bring out that massive guillotine.
