I Love How Smit said "Discharge the Capacitor"

I could see the "Doob" in Dels Mouth as he was sayin' WTF!!!

And The Pee on the concrete slab.

Electricity ain't my bag for sure. Neither is plumbing, carpentry or troubleshooting . I'm good at holding the flashlight though.

There was a time when I thought I was getting pretty good at plumbing; then I almost caught the house on fire soldering some copper pipes.

Friend of mine says there's nothing to it. It's just glue and plastic.

Quote from: gcode on June 25, 2025, 11:41 AMI was having trouble with my 15 year old washing machine about six months ago
I called a guy I knew use used to be a Samsung repairman.
He put a new door switch and related parts in it for $350
It worked for about 4 months then started acting up.
The drain pump was not working properly and I found out that if I drained it, waited about and hour
and chanted the magic incantations it would run. That worked for about 2 months.
I called the guy again and he put a new drain pump in it for $240. That didn't work.
Then he decided it needed a new main board $500 new or $100 used from ebay.
It became clear that guy didn't know what was wrong and was going to throw new parts and my $$$ at it till
something stuck. I had $590 into it and no washing machine.
I sent him packing and bought a new machine.

I've wasted money having repairmen come in for a small appliance repair and it was never a good investment. Now, if I can't fix it myself (common), I'll buy a new unit and pay them to take the old one out.

Another time I researched buying replacement parts for an ice maker that quit working. A part of the ice maker could go for over $100. A whole new ice maker was less than $100 so I replaced the whole thing.

With youtube vids, surely nothing is out the window nowadays - unless it's cheap and cheerful or not cost effective.
C'mon men, all y'all are skilled machinists and engineers. Aren'tchu?

I DIY everything I possibly can. (Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, etc.)
If you're not you are just throwing money away.
Last fun project was installing a 9000BTU Minisplit in my shop.
Current project is building and installing a EG4 Hybrid Solar/Battery system in my house.

I have been fighting this one for over a year.  the fix was just go back to some old school ice trays.  I did try defrosting it with a hair dryer while standing one one leg and that didn't seem to fix it either.

I wonder if Smit was talking about a countertop ice maker?
