Shazam/TPP

we just purchased CAM Assist from CloudNC, haven't had a chance to test it or take any of the online training.
Company bought it to train our young engineer to be our next programmer.....  :coffee:

Please keep us updated on how this goes. I predict lots of companies with broken machines in the future with the programmer going "I dunno its what ai told me to do....."

Couple weeks ago our CEO asked me what I thought about CAM Assist, my response "there's a reason I haven't brought it up, I think it's still too infant to be useful". We had a CAM Assist demo last week and are doing the 14 day free trial in a couple weeks.

I'm curious, what was the reaction when the first few CNC machines hit the market? Was everyone super skeptical like we're being with CAM Assist? Just trying to judge if I'm being the correct amount of skeptical here. I've seen a lot of negative feedback in the forums, but not sure how many of those people have actually used it.

So,... what? Am I being asked if I ever borrow any of Al's tools? Who's Al?  :headscratch:

This wasn't AI but I think it's relevant.

I was having trouble with a project. I finally reached out to the software vendor. Tech support suggested I try a different strategy; even offering a modified post. It looked good in simulation.

I doubt that I will ever see a machine crash so spectacularly again. It picked a random point in space and all 7 axes went there full speed ahead. This is a very large machine. Pieces broke off and were flying everywhere. A large hard stop, weighing least 10 pounds was sheared off and landed about 6 inches from my foot. Hundreds, if not thousands, of ball bearings came pouring out of the destroyed A-axis in two streams. I was standing between them. I started to run when I realized I was standing in just the right spot not to get hit by anything.

Long ago, when the machine was still being installed, the OEM warned against the strategy tech support suggested. After 10 years I had forgotten all about it.

My machine uses X, Y, Z, A, B, C and C'. The strategy I used put B axis at 90 degrees. This put the other two rotary axis (A and C) parallel which, in turn, created a singularity. The machine lost its location in 3D space and just took off at the highest speed possible.

If you've ever wondered what "gimble lock" is that they talked about in Apollo 13, that's it.

My point is, even when you know what you're doing, you can fuck shit up fast.

Just be careful when using output from AI

If he has zero machining experience I can't see a scenario where this succeeds.
