Canada passed Bill C-59 in June 2024, introducing a 3% Digital Services Tax retroactive to 2022, targeting large tech companies like Google, Meta, and Amazon. In response, on June 27, 2025, Donald Trump announced the suspension of U.S.-Canada trade talks and warned of upcoming tariffs on Canadian goods. Canada is expected to retaliate, raising concerns of a renewed trade war affecting cross-border businesses.

But since that tax is a tariff, only Canadians have to pay it right? Isn't that what the left always says?

This is why the economists frustrate me with their views on tariffs.

Until the reciprocal tariffs hit, in theory, yes

The think is Canada's parliament just went on their 12 week vacation also, so the government can't do much to repeal the tariffs unless they recall them somehow, if they do, the first thing they should do is call a vote of no confidence in Mark Carneys leadership

Have you ever thought about going and educating those economists on how they actually work? :D

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

It's a bad situation, although in theory grand scheme of things, I do appreciate some of the things our President Trump is doing to further world peace in volatile regions around the world.

I wish I could say the same about the leadership in Canada...

Can you explain what that is?

All I've seen is this admin doing a great job of making the rest of the world hate the US.

The do hate it when we stop being their lap dogs. Even if only for an administration. But if the Dems keep up with their shenanigans, they could0 be in for a bit of a rough ride for a little while.

The complaint isn't about pulling back.

Trump isn't wrong about some of these things. His approach is to separate us from the rest of the globe. I don't know that is a great idea.

I think we all complain about just about everyone's approach to this or that.

And I certainly don;t agree with everything Trump does or says, but I sure as shit have hated what we have let the rest of the world do to us since the 1990's. So is Trump going too far? Maybe. But I prefer the current trajectory over the trajectory of the last 30-ish years.
