I have always been of things that go boom with pretty lights.

For most of my adult life, Wichita has been a "safe and sane" fireworks city, even though you can go across the city limits and buy almost any consumer grade firework. A lot of people in the city ignored the rules; so much so that, a few years ago, the city changed the law to allow almost all consumer fireworks. Still no bottle rockets, though, since they tend to burn wheat fields.

This year, I bought some 500g cakes and some canister mortar shells. I live on a cul-de-sac and the neighbors usually have an impromptu fireworks show in the middle of the circle. I've heard it is supposed to be pretty windy though, so, that may put the brakes on aerial stuff, unfortunately.

You would think I would eventually grow out of it but, sadly, no.

"PSA: If You Own Any Libs, Remember To Bring Them Inside And Calm Them Down During July 4 Celebrations"
"To a lib, fireworks proclaiming the freedom of the United States from England make them feel like they're about to die," said Dr. Bob Meander, an expert lib psychologist. "Libs often spook and run down the street screaming at the sky and are prime targets for getting run over by an American-made pickup truck. They'll be much safer if you bring them inside, speak soothing words of encouragement to them, and turn on some CNN."

The doctor also recommended reading from The Communist Manifesto and feeding them their favorite vegan treats.

I was sitting on my porch last night while some people down the street were shooting off some fairly big fireworks when I saw a dog walking up the street towards me. I could only see his silhouette but when he walked into my yard I called to him and when he came over to me I realized it was a young Doberman. I used to have a Doberman that I loved dearly. This guy came over, leaning against me, just like my old friend used to do. It was like he came back for a visit. It was so great sitting with him leaning against my leg while I petted him.
I've thought about getting another one, but I don't know if it would be fair to the dog since I'd have to leave him all day. I don't know how a Dobie would do in doggie day care.
