Detained immigrants at 'Alligator Alcatraz' say there are worms in food and wastewater on the floor

To be a little more exact, this is who a writer from the Associated Press says we are and what we represent.

Quote from: neurosis on July 12, 2025, 03:54 PMWe had a guy who worked at a local machine repair shop named Richard. We called him Richard head.

He knew it was in fun.

The town I grew up in had an insurance agent named Dick Schaft.
Nice guy, well respected and I believe a WWII vet.
True story.

Search for it.

Or just dismiss it if you want.

That's what Jesus would do.

may I ask why you never complained about the firefly detention center over crowding and horrid conditions that was built during Biden's term? are you frustrated or delighted that Trump closed that facility?

it's not apples and oranges, it's democrat vs republican. I have no qualm with your social justice views on immigration, I actually would think it is admirable, if you applied your concern evenly amongst democratic and republican administrations. But since you never seem to care about immigrants being treated badly by democrats, (or if you do, you don't voice it) it makes me think this is about political points rather than an actual care of the human condition.

The Firefly detention center was built to house the people coming across the border. I doubt it was a luxury facility but I've not heard it was horrific either. It was closed because of the decline in border crossings. You can claim that's a victory for Trump if you want, if you think making this country a shitty place to want to come to is a victory.

The Alligator Alcatraz facility was built to house people arrested by ICE. People off the street, people at work, people on the farms, etc. ICE people wearing masks and combat gear, snatching people up in a manner they (and people who see it) think is a kidnapping. People being shipped there being accused of heinous crimes but without access to any manner of due process. Shitty conditions enough to urge them to self deport.

To elaborate further, I don't think you're one of the guys who believe every immigrant is a raping, murdering, gang member Trump originally said they were coming for. Now ICE is targeting seemingly decent, productive people who just want to live, in their zeal to produce the numbers of deportations Trump wants. And those people are going in to swamp alcatraz.

But if all you can see is red and blue, that's on you.

how do you know that's true, though? In the article you linked to all of the testimony about the conditions there was coming from defense attorney's. If there is no due process, how do they have defense attorney's?

All of that said, I am against rounding up any illegal-immigrant who has been here for a long time, (especially if they are contributing to society) unless they are involved in some heinous crime. I'm against inhumane treatment of any human being any where. If I were king, I would secure the border, better than it has been secured in my lifetime. and grant clemency to the long-termers, especially so that we can get them paying taxes and social security, rather than have their wages off the books if they are not paying them already. In my mind, and I know it's not popular with anybody, but I look at it as though, not securing the border was a mistake. people got through. fine! that's on us. give them a pathway to legal residency, but for crying out loud, we have to keep more illegals from coming in.

He doesn't.
But he needs it to be true to further the narrative of orangemanbad so he believes it to be true.

You gotta look a little. And you damn sure won't find it on Fox news (or other right wing "news" sources.)

Attorneys Say They Can't See Immigration Clients At Alligator Alcatraz

Excerpt:
QuoteImmigration Attorneys Unable To See Clients At Alligator Alcatraz Facility

Attorneys with clients at Alligator Alcatraz, built in the Florida Everglades, criticize the lack of due process and access to counsel, and express concerns about the conditions. The Miami Herald described detainees suffering from mosquito bites, days without showers and "scant sunlight coming through the heavy-duty tents, making it difficult for them to know whether it is day or night."

Two weeks have passed since a Florida Highway Patrol officer arrested the Honduran immigrant client of Magdalena Cuprys of Cuprys & Associates. "He was stopped at a weigh station in Tampa because he owns a construction company, and he was required to stop for his truck to be weighed," Cuprys told me. "The client had a valid Florida driver's license. The patrol officer called Customs and Border Protection on him. The client called me, and the officer took the phone from him and spoke with me."
