Quote from: neurosis on July 23, 2025, 08:06 AMA little more awake? It's 8:00 in the morning.

I've been at work since 2am.  This is afternoon to me. :D

Wow! I had no idea you worked hours like that....what time do you usually knock off?

I'm an ~10AM to 8/9PM guy myself, generally 6 days/week. I'm kinda in slow-burn mode now, and can maintain this pace fairly easily as long as I don't get (mentally) stressed out...no crazy hours or high-speed antics like I did in my 30's! LOL!

I start early because I want to get out of here early.  We work 10 - 12 hour shifts. If I can get out of here at around 2 in the afternoon, I don't have to deal with traffic.

I'm usually in bed before 7pm.

It doesn't matter what day it is, I'm usually up before 2am. I don't bother setting an alarm anymore.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

Yeah, that makes sense! Are other folks in the shop at 2AM too, or just you?

There are times I've thought there might be safety in numbers, but it's great to have quiet and no distractions, too.

And I get the commute thing, too! Mines pretty short-a 10 minute bike ride, but even then there's lots of car-enabled stupidity. It just works better to be slightly out-of-phase with it all.

I'm the only one here, but I'm also not on a machine that early. The next person shows up at 4:30am. The rest between 5am and 7am.

It's a lot easier to get things done with no distractions. As soon as people start showing up I'm having to answer questions or help the boss with quotes. Nothing is worse than being in the middle of programming a part and get pulled off only to lose your train of thought.  It wasn't as big of a deal when I was younger. Now it takes a bit to remember where I left off.  :D

I work right in the butt-hole of Seattle, so getting out of here before the Tech herd is unleashed on the streets saves me 30 minutes a day.  Luckily, I only work 4 days a week.

I used to do that too. Then I found out I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine. I can usually sleep the night through. You might check it out.

I agree. sleeping with a bicycle helmet is just about as uncomfortable as it gets. I quit that years ago.

A friend of mine in his early 70's found out he had sleep apnea (central sleep apnea, not obstructive sleep apnea), and as far as I know the CPAP machine helped somewhat, though I recall he mentioned it took a while to get used to it....

Curious to hear how you learned you had this (I think my friend had a hunch, and bought a pulse oximeter, got unfavorable results that indicated something was amiss, and then consulted his Dr).
