QuoteA majority of Generation Z job seekers are reportedly relying on their parents to navigate the job hunt.

According to a July 2025 survey from Resume Templates, 77% of Gen Z respondents admitted to bringing a parent to a job interview, and 53% said their parent had spoken with a hiring manager on their behalf.

The dependence persists when young people enter the workforce, with 73% of respondents saying they've had their parents help complete work assignments and 45% reported regularly having a parent talk to their current manager.

The survey polled 831 Gen Z adults who are employed full-time.

Hello,
HR?.. This is Biily's mom. He's really triggered by all the harsh there at work.
Can you do something? Billy's really stressed out.

HR replies..
Well yes, we can do something. We'll send Billy and his box of crayons home right away.
Please don't send him back. We wouldn't want all the harsh to trigger the poor boy again, would we?

 ::)

I just can't picture this. My mom helped me get a job when I was 13, but seriously!!!
Is this generation really this fucked up???

You have NO idea. It's insane.

Kids these days ALL have an affliction. And they're proud of it, it seems.
I'd wager my year's pay that if you asked 100 of them, 95% would say they "suffer" from anxiety.
This is because of umbrella parents and growing up glued to a phone.

If you take a kids phone away from them for 5 minutes they have a meltdown because they don't know what else to do.

We have two kids in their early 20s here who, I would bet, spend at least 3/4 of the day staring at their phone screen.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

We have at least 4 of them that do. Out of the 20 or so that work here.
20% of the workforce glued to their phone all fucking day.
I come to work with a 98% charge, I leave with a 97% charge because it drained 1% while sitting on my desk.

I used to think that about umbrella parents but now I am starting to consider that it is our fault as Gen X parents. We were latch key kids. We raised ourselves. However we did this pre-internet and largely before public schools went full tilt crazy leftist. In turn we gave our kids too much autonomy and independence that was filled with social media and lib BS from schools. that result is a generation of mentally unstable, victim mentality, oppressed feeling, non-functioning adults.

I take walks at lunch and listen to a podcast, so mine is a little worse, but I don't use my phone at all at work unless it's business related.

When I think of a candidate bringing someone along on their interview this is what pops up in my mind....

Blah!! Blah!!

I have no clue to your upbringing. But as a Dad you have my respect. Your daughter listens.

Some kids just don't.

Some of the hardest lessons are self taught. Mommy can't stop it.

I can't recall the amount of times I had to rethink my decisions and get up off the floor. (Dad)

After Dad it was just a matter of life kicking your ass.

"Some people you just can't reach"

This trade probably saved my life. :)

Dad's Rule... You will graduate and you will have a Trade. :D

Do nothing office jobs can't be replaced by GPT and Veo fast enough. They can all go on UBI and play video games in the basement while mom makes some more bagel bites. That way they can all stay off the road while I'm trying to get to work and make cool shit. This town is probably 50% federal office workers, and they all get paid waaaay too much to send emails and have pre-meeting meetings about the next meeting's pre-meeting agenda. I'm only half joking, I've heard some gnarly tales from the public service.

In principle? Nothing.

But it's anecdotally linked to being a huge disappointment in your 30s if your mom still cooks them for you and you happen to also live at her house.
