There's A LOT of retired Special Operations authors. I can name a dozen without too much effort.

Arguably one of the most famous ones.... Jack Carr; Author of the Terminal List series of books.

You are more likely to find good writers in SOF because of the nature of their work; the After Action Reports they have to author to cite an example.
