I'm always open to hearing who you think is paying for this.

"the importer"

Thanks. That's genius.

"U.S. tariffs are paid by the American companies (importers) that bring foreign goods into the United States. When these companies pay tariffs at the border, the money goes to the U.S. Treasury Department. These costs are typically passed on to consumers in the form of higher prices for goods and services, meaning that American consumers often end up bearing much of the burden.

Is there any way you can simplify that so that Trumpers can understand that tariffs aren't just free money? :headscratch:

QuoteTariffs are paid by the importer to the country charging the tariffs.

That's why he wants fair trade to keep this country from paying out more than they take in.

The first part is absolutely correct, but I don't think he understands the importer is the person in THIS country, it's not the companies selling the goods. They are the exporters. The exporters are NOT paying more because of the tariffs. It's not hard!  :secret:

https://search.brave.com/search?q=if+you+purchase+something+from+china%2C+who+is+the+importer&source=web&summary=1&conversation=dcadbc882fb08046ec9cb2

"
When you purchase goods from China, you become the importer of record for those goods.
This responsibility includes ensuring the goods comply with all relevant import regulations, such as safety, health, and quota requirements, and that the necessary documentation is provided to customs authorities.
The importer is accountable for any fines, penalties, or the potential destruction of goods if regulations are not met.

The buyer, whether an individual or a business, is legally responsible for the importation process and must file entry documents with the appropriate customs authority at the port of entry.
For small, personal purchases, courier services like DHL, UPS, or FedEx may handle the import process on your behalf, but the responsibility still rests with you as the buyer.
If you are importing commercial goods, you must verify that you have the legal right to import and that your goods meet all import requirements."
