Off the west coast of Australia

There was a buoy with a camera and they want land near so they could film the splashdown.

Was it supposed to explode at the very end?

It's almost as if people WANT the lunar endeavor to fail.

:coffee:

I guess if I were clutching the "NASA faked the moon landing" bullshit, I'd want it to fail too. KaN't bE HaViNg MuH KorNSpearUhSeEZ dISpRoVeN now can we.

QuoteAmong the most enduring legacies of the Apollo missions are the Lunar Laser Ranging Retroreflectors left by Apollo 11, 14, and 15. These mirrored panels, still in use today, reflect laser beams sent from Earth, allowing scientists to measure the distance to the Moon with remarkable precision.
Yes, Apollo astronauts placed some fancy laser mirrors on the Moon, something that's easy to trace by simply beaming laser towards it.

Decades of consistent results from observatories worldwide—independent of NASA—prove the reflectors' presence. Observatories in France, Germany, and the U.S. regularly use these devices to study lunar orbit dynamics and verify Einstein's theory of general relativity. No other space program before or since Apollo has placed such devices on the Moon.

They were simulating landing back at the tower they launched from and getting grabbed by the arms they've been
catching Falcon rockets with. I'm sure they knew the rocket would explode as it descended into the sea.

They have landing legs they can use as well, but prefer to be grabbed by the tower.
The legs are heavy and reduce the payload the rocket can lift.
Landing at the tower will also enable 24 hour turn around as the rocket is landing on it's launching pad.
Obviously they will need to use legs when they land on Mars, as there are no landing towers there.... yet.

I remember the Mercury and Gemini launches when I was a boy.
The target for the capsules was the Pacific Ocean and they weren't real sure they'd hit that.

I don't think we're allowed to swim out that close in the pacific.

Of course not. Stanley Kubrik only works on sound stages. Allegedly.
