Went to the ER yesterday afternoon with severe pain in my stomach.
A CAT scan revealed a large blood clot
In my small intestine.
I'm on a regime of blood thinners and really good drugs for three days then they will evaluate me for surgery.
They are telling me this could be a life altering, even life ending event.
For someone who has never been sick, this really sucks.
Naturally my wife is freaking out as well.

Oh no! I'm wishing you the best possible outcome here!

This just came outta the blue? No prior symptoms? Did they offer any clues about how this happens?

Years back a friend's dad had some symptoms, and somehow his intestines had kinda gotten kinked (I can't remember the formal term for this), so they performed surgery to get it all unwound...good as new!

No idea what caused it

A friend had a struggle with an esophagus surgery in that general area. They unknowingly nicked an artery then sent him into recovery.
There was some drama and more surgery, but he's fine now.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery 🙏🏻

Dang Tom!!! Praying for a full recovery for you!!!!

I developed a blood clot inside my left ventricle in February. So they put me on 3 months of daily Tinzaparin injections (my wife stepped up and did these for me!) along with an anti-coagulation pill. I then had some genetic testing done and they discovered that I have a Prothombrin gene mutation that make me more susceptible to getting blood clots (I had one in each of my lower legs over the last 2.5 decades in the veins). After the 3 month of injections they put me on daily blood thinner medication. I will now stay on the blood thinner and anti-coagulation pills for the rest of my life (I am 58 years old now).

Volvulus is the technical name. My wife was born with intestinal malrotation and suffered fairly severe volvulus events until she had reconstructive gut surgery.

Wow, did they release you to go home or are you staying there while they evaluate? Keep us posted, and get better soon.
