What sucks is that, with insurance, they knock 34,000 off a 51,000 bill. If I was self-funded would I be stuck with the whole 51,000?

Don't know what the future holds, but I currently don't plan on working hard past 58... Even if it means living in a shack in the woods.

Healthcare might be more corrupt than politics.🤷🏻

Luckily I love what I do for work. Good thing too... because I'm going to have to do it until I'm dead or nearly dead.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

If you don't find a way to earn money while you sleep, you'll work until you're dead.

G glad to hear you got taken care of. Scary stuff :(

As for the $ side my wife's care was > $1.3mil billed for the first year. Thankfully max out of pockets and her double insurance, saved our financial assets.

Probably Dilaudid (hydromorphone)
It's 8 times more potent than morphine but fairly short acting. I was getting it every 2 hours.

Yup. My spouse got it when one of the chemo's froze her digestive tract - said it barely touched the pain. Stomach stuff sucks

I got an email from the hospital I was in this morning stating there were updates to my records.
I logged and my records had a finalized diagnosis of my condition.

The condition is called Mesenteric venous thrombosis.

A little time with Google and I found an article on CleavlandClinic.org
which included this.

QuoteMesenteric venous thrombosis can be fatal. With acute thrombosis, the risk of dying increases with each hour that passes after your symptoms begin. After 24 hours without treatment, the condition is usually fatal.

I started getting a serious pain in my stomach about 1 PM Sunday afternoon.
By 6, I was rolling around on the couch nearly incoherent with pain.
We left for the ER about 7 and arrived about 8
I was hurting so bad I could not sit down and just walked in circles in the middle of the waiting room.
The ER folks recognized something was very wrong and had me in a room before my wife got back from parking the car.
After a CAT scan and a bunch of tests a young Korean woman came in and introduced herself as my surgeon.
She said I'd be going into surgery soon and there was a 50/50 chance of survival.
The head nurse came in and I pretty much said WTF and she left. Then an Korean man came in and said he was the senior
surgeon. He said they were going to try non surgical treatment for 6 hours and reevaluate.
Looks like I really dodged a bullet.

When you first mentioned this I googled this, too! Yikes!

It's crazy how quickly various maladies can take you out-very sobering.

Glad you're on the mend!

How are you feeling now? Any idea of long-term effects yet? It seems a good omen that they got you back home so quickly!
