I've been watching some Dave Chappelle short videos. He might qualify.

Quote from: CNCAppsJames on September 15, 2025, 11:02 AMEver study the  civil unrest of the 1970's? It's worth some examination.

We are not as close as we were then, but we are exponentially closer than we were in the 80's and 90's.
I remember the riots after the King assassination. And the riots at the 68 Democratic Convention. The SDS. The weather underground. The Blsck Panthers.
The late 60s and 70s had several individual violent militant groups. They each had their own ax to grind. I think that if they had all been able to link up we would have had something like "the troubles" in North Ireland.

Quote from: beej on September 15, 2025, 11:16 AMI've read plenty of autobiographies of civil war soldiers on both sides. most of them end up at the same place mentally wondering what in the world they are actually fighting for. Y

This 1000%!

Mostly because I seem to occupy two different worlds at the same time (the "liberal"/blue world because we live in Northern CA/Silicon Valley, and the "conservative"/red world because of the trade I work in) I get this interesting
perspective on many things, especially our currently-tense political climate here in the US. I often feel that I'm a little too liberal for my more conservative friends, and a little too conservative for my more liberal friends. There are certainly some fundamental differences between the two camps, but a characteristic shared by most members of both camps is a near-total belief in the righteousness of their cause/point of view coupled with a low regard for the "other."

In the time I've spent here in this group I've noticed the same sort of zeal that I can find if I go hunting for the more extreme "libtard" talking points in a left-leaning venue. The lack of self-reflection here is astonishing IMHO, and sadly I find the same to be true in many of the other forums. I wish that we might all take a step back and reflect on how we comport ourselves as individuals; we're not usually covering ourselves in glory these days. What's funny (sad/pathetic, really) is that everybody is just certain that it's the other guys fault-my hands are clean/my cause is righteous/I occupy the high ground/etc.

It's like everybody starts with the same form letter: all you have to do is change up a few proper nouns and switch up a few pejorative adjectives and off it goes. And we all pretend that we're "free thinkers"....man, what a joke!

Yeah, I was too young to remember it, but over the last few years I've been reading about it, asking my aunts and uncles about what they saw.

The wild card today...  comms anywhere, any time.

I thought that Kanardians were supposed to be 'nice'?

This was not nice.

This is how middle eastern schools raise up new generations of fuckin suicide bombers.

And there are plenty of cases of similar things, perhaps not as egregious, happing here. These people should have their teaching licenses revoked and never be allowed near children again.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

She said this in an interview...

Quote"There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

No, Pam. There is JUST free speech.

She is easily Trump's worst political appointee. And that's sayin sumfin.

Yeah... Pam has got to go. That is inexcusable.

The people saying distasteful (at best) things about Charlie, are 100% entitled to do so. Even those saying he deserved to die. They are entitled to say that. That is EXACTLY what the 1st Amendment is for; hearing the things we don't want to hear.

Yes there are practical limits; no you cannot yell fire in a crowded movie theater, no you cannot incite violence, you cannot call for the death of another human, etc... short of things like that, the speech is protected regardless of how disgusting what is said.

Pam, as the guardian of the US Constitution from the Law Enforcement side should know better.

It's getting tribal. The left tribe was judge, jury, and executioner for Charlie. The left determined Charlie was such a heinous human being he must no longer number among the living.

Our soldiers in Iraq, had an Al Queda leader guilty of crimes against humanity on untold thousands of Iraqi civilians in their crosshairs... but could not take the shot because "he was not  doing anything the Rules of Engagement would consider hostile... at that moment". If that man, was allowed to live another day, and Charlie Kirk was not, what does that say about the left? To me, it tells me all I need to know about them and their ideology. They put it out on display for all of us to see. Good. We know what they are about. Not only are conservatives "enemies of the state", they are now worse human beings than an Al Queda leader in Iraq.

Good to know.

I went to college in a socialist cesspool and don't remember ever talking to a professor about politics. I took no political classes where, that would make sense.
I don't know what the fuck you're all on about with anti-college.
If anything I met more right wing people people there because they had the money to go.

That bubble that you live in doesn't show you the truth. It only shows you what you want it to show you.
