Kimmel had a whopping 129,000 viewers and the show cost to keep on the air was thru the roof.
He was getting dropped no matter what.

But Disney was able to get the Trump Administration to do their dirty work for them. Not bad. But they managed to piss off the leftys for not fighting for that show.

Fighting for 130,000 viewers... in a nation of 330,000,000

Over the last 10-ish years Late Night "comedy" shows viewership was down ~70% from all the ratings I was finding.

Funny South Park is  VEHEMENTLY anti Trump... yet no calls for it's demise. They poked fun at Charlie Kirk... and it was hilarious.

Kimmel was fired by his employers because his show was losing $$$

The real reason Kimmel was sacked

The left can rage all day and all night that Trump is suppressing free speech and the leftist sheep will believe that,
but it is simply not true

QuoteHis suspension was imposed after three days of mocking and making sick jokes on air about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. According to the commentariat over here, this is dangerous censorship, an attack on free speech, state control of the media, blah, blah. Such claims expose a total ignorance of what has been going on in the US.

Kimmel's 'sacking' was a business decision, pure and simple. Anybody who has watched the output from the left-wing US media such as ABC, CNN and MSNBC, will know that they still devote every hour of the day to virulent anti-Trump propaganda and lies. The idea that their bosses now want to suck up to the President is beyond ludicrous.

The reality is that Kimmel's sickening rants over the last week led to many of ABC's affiliates pulling Kimmel Live from their channels – in the US, large TV companies such as ABC rely on these affiliates to carry broadcasts to local cable viewers. Large affiliates, including Nextstar, Sinclair, Gray and Tegna all pulled the programme. Nextstar's CEO cited a 'breach of journalistic standards', while Sinclair's executive chairman David Smith called the remarks 'divisive and irresponsible'.

With this wholesale loss of syndication, coupled with advertisers also pulling ads, ABC had little choice but to dump Kimmel. Executives from Disney, who own ABC, including CEO Bob Iger and co-chair Dana Walden, cited a surge in 'advertiser calls' as a primary factor in suspending the show. These calls reportedly started rolling in after Kimmel's September 15 monologue, with brands expressing concerns over the 'insensitive' remarks about Charlie Kirk's death potentially damaging their reputations amid national tensions.

None of this should come as the least surprise to anybody. Kimmel has spent years insulting Trump and anybody who had the temerity to vote for him. This no doubt goes down well with the left-wing woke audiences in New York. But why, for instance, should McDonald's spend tens of millions a year for an advertising slot on Kimmel Live when he shows such contempt for most of their customers?

Kimmel was ordered to apologize, by his employer.
He refused, doubled down on his lies and slander and was fired.
As I have said before, TDS is insidious and apparently incurable.
Good riddance.
Kimmel can join Keith Olbermann in the ranks of unemployable TDS ravaged leftist lunatics

Who the hell is Paul Homewood, and how does he seem to have an inside scoop on why Kimmel was "really sacked"?

The ratings discussion.
--------------------------

which late night show does best in the 18–49 demographic
For the second quarter of 2025, Jimmy Kimmel Live! earned the top spot in the 11:35 p.m. time slot for the 18–49 demographic, with Gutfeld! leading the overall late-night category due to its earlier airtime.
Q2 2025 ratings for the 18–49 demo

Data from the second quarter of 2025 shows the rankings based on Nielsen ratings:

Jimmy Kimmel Live! (ABC): Averaged 220,000 viewers, narrowly beating out its 11:35 p.m. competitor, Stephen Colbert.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS): Had 219,000 viewers, just 1,000 behind Kimmel.

Gutfeld! (Fox News): Averaged 238,000 viewers. However, it airs at 10 p.m., an hour earlier than Kimmel and Colbert, giving it an advantage since more people are watching television at that time.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC): Trailed the competition with 157,000 viewers.
Performance notes

Colbert leads in total viewers: While Kimmel topped the 18–49 demo in the 11:35 p.m. slot, Colbert's The Late Show continued to have the most total viewers during the second quarter of 2025, with an average of 2.42 million viewers.

Declining demo for Kimmel: Despite its Q2 win, Jimmy Kimmel Live! experienced a notable decline in its 18–49 viewership over the past decade.

Gutfeld! dominates earlier: Fox News' Gutfeld! is a special case. It airs an hour earlier than the broadcast shows and consistently draws a larger overall viewership. In Q2 2025, it led all other late-night programs in both total viewers and the 18–49 demo.

I had to ask, because this came from a UK (conservativewoman.co.uk) site, and it says that Homewood is a former accountant who blogs about climate change.  :headscratch:

I thought he was good when he was with Dan Patrick back in the day.
I still like Dan, but I never watch him anymore, for no real reason.

Way back in the day I watched Letterman, but that was 30+ years ago.
Now I'm in bed at 8PM and up at 2AM.. I've got exactly zero time to waste on that collection
of fools, whether they be conservative, TDS ravaged leftist or anywhere in between.

ghuns

Gutfeld's show, in addition to being higher rated, also costs a tiny fraction of what the network shows cost.

Each of the network shows are taped in a dedicated theater and have writing staffs in the range of 20plus.

Gutfeld rolls in foldable bleachers into a space used by other Fox shows. His writing staff is him and a couple of other guys.

I thought the memorial service for Charlie Kirk was great yesterday with all the speakers although I didn't like Stephen Millers message and I did not care for Trump's speech either. He missed another opportunity to close the division some and I was very disappointed in him.

I didn't get a chance to watch it, but I heard from some people who did and they said exactly the same thing.

It was very spiritual! Don Jr, Rubio, Hegseth and RFK Jr were excellent. Trump did say some good things but wandered off the theme of the day showed that he is not a forgiving person which to me showed one of his worst weaknesses. It was like a bad ending to a great movie.
