How many people have been accosted/attacked for wearing a hat or shirt in a public location by a stranger?

never by a stranger but how about family?
I have had some pretty good bouts while trying not to discuss politics... usually if in my house it's just plain not allowed, religion and politics.
How about when at a gathering or what not?
I have left before from "fights" breaking out.
I come from a long line of dems and most of them are really sweet people but there are a few KARENS and if you tell them you voted for trump they want to rip your fn head off in about 2 minutes , they just can't contain themselves, and if you keep discussing it they will get physical. What's really Ironic is it seems to always be a woman that gets so out of sorts they want to FIGHT , doesn't atter who with.

l don't wear political attire so I have never been accosted. The only time I've seen it happen is on youtube. My father in law used to talk about politics but we just let him rant.

A patrician's wardrobe, I see. We have a "no word art" rule around my house, that goes for clothes, walls, mugs. Everything. Never even thought about political attire though, it's not big up here, I think great gramm has a MAGA hat as a joke (maybe?). I want to teach my boy that you're not defined by what brand you're wearing, or where you purport to have visited, or what school you go to. You're defined by your actions and decisions as a man.

I despise the conspicuous consumption of his grandparents, and I need to actively defend my island, whatever the cost may be.

There isn't a single politician I can think of that I like well enough to be a walking advertisement for. To me, wearing political attire is just weird.

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

The closest I would go is a t-shirt for the Feed Us A Fetus album. MAYBE a Hawk Tuah '24 hat. But I'd be breaking my own rules, lol.

The most controversial thing i have is a t-shirt that looks like the Dark Side of the Moon album but says "Pink Freud: The dark side of your mom".

That's hilarious!

I don't know if the quote is accurate, but I loved it anyway: "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

Joe Dirt is my favorite comedy movie, I have this t-shirt that he wears in it:

We don't have any politically flavored clothing in our closet. We skew more liberal than conservative, but strongly prefer to communicate in ways that are accurate, efficient, and concise...speak or write, don't just affix symbols on your person, vehicle, or home!

My wife really tries to stay up on current events, especially re politics. I've got to keep my head on straight so I limit my news intake more than she does-it helps to preserve what's left of my sanity.

I love exploring ideas, and am (nearly) insatiably curious about much of life. Different strokes for different folks as they say, but I think many of us suffer when we confuse our beliefs with our identities. My hunch is that many of us somehow (unwittingly) cross a line where we stop defending an idea and start defending an identity (our own), and I think this explains some (most?) of the rancor we see in public discourse today.

Yessir. And in the informatio infused era of rampant consumerism, charged rhetoric, and indoctrination we aren't able to even know we should have an identity outside of a group.

The internet has successfully contained us to our fishponds, and since people's digital self is so intertwined with our true self, the acceleration is unbearable.

I think *we ourselves* have "contained us to our fishponds"; the web is just todays embodiment of the delivery mechanism.

I hope folks here will get a chance to watch "Manufacturing Consent" (I know, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record) and do a little pondering for themselves. While it's been 30+ years since the film was released the ideas are as relevant today as ever (they're just delivered thru different means). Lots of interesting insights there-I think "the juice is worth the squeeze" as they say.

It's on my to do list for this weekend. I have at least 1 night per week to myself, and I believe I can abstain from self-gratification THIS ONE time, and watch a wicked documentary.
