Let me guess..  Authored by Republican lawmakers?

"Michigan representatives just proposed a bill to ban many types of internet content, as well as VPNs that could be used to circumvent it. Here's what we know. "

Anticorruption of Public Morals Act

Would this mean no more streamed rated R movies? I'm not including the "following" text. It gets graphic.

"(A) Is a depiction, description, or simulation, whether real,25
animated, digitally generated, written, or auditory, of sexual26
acts, that includes any of the following:"

I assume that this has zero chance of passing in Michigan?

I'll go back to being a conservative, when conservatives go back to being conservative.

I'm about as anti-porn as you can be, but a bill is not going to change anything. similar to outlawing guns, if people desire it, they will find it. (which btw is why democrats see fascists everywhere they look.)

That's because only 3 people would be on it.

I'd always thought that "Homeland Security" sounded just a tad bit ominous, but now we're going to up our game with the "Thought Police."

We'll start with the low hanging fruit, because how can you not be against the, well, perverts and pedos, homos and trannys, and once we've got folks on board with that, we'll go after enemies of the state.

(***AI cut-and-paste below***)

Origin in Literature

Fictional Concept: The concept was popularized by Orwell in his 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, where the Thought Police are a powerful entity in the superstate of Oceania.

Methods: They use surveillance technology, informants, and psychological tactics to identify and punish citizens for displaying "thoughtcrime" or any deviation from the Party's approved ideology.

Purpose: The goal of the Thought Police is to maintain total control over the populace by eradicating independent thought, thereby securing the regime's power.

Modern Usage

Metaphorical Meaning: Today, "thought police" is often used metaphorically to describe any group or system that attempts to control or suppress free thought, speech, or beliefs, especially in cases of perceived ideological rigidity.

Examples of Usage: The term might be applied to:

Political Groups: People who try to enforce a specific viewpoint on others and silence opposing ideas.

Social Movements: Groups perceived to be controlling public discourse or punishing those with different opinions.

Abusive Relationships: An individual who constantly monitors and criticizes their partner's thoughts and beliefs as a form of control.

Way to go....

MIL-TFP-41

Prohibited material does not include any of the following:
Material to be used for scientific and medical research or instruction.

Well, I've always called those kind of videos "training films", so I'm guessing all is fair.

Only in a conservative religious theocracy.
... Uh oh

I don't think that anyone is gullible enough to believe that this could be enforceable.

The part that is troubling to me, is that they're willing to ban VPN's just so people don't use them to connect to porn sites.

Someone should tell them that you can use an ssh tunnel connected to a friends computer in another State to do the same thing. How would you enforce that?

I'd just like to be on record as saying, as I've said before. I'm very conservative and very religious, and very anti-theocracy. I do not want to belong to a religion or denomination that needs to be propped up by a government entity. I believe that if, what I believe is actually true, it should stand on it's on 2 legs.

Time to fire up the ol' Usenet account. There's enough tiddies in them thar hills to last a man a thousand million lifetimes.
